Look what we’ve got on our roof deck right now:

These grape tomatoes are SO sweet and delicious.
We’ve also got these:

I haven’t tried the jalapenos yet. Letting them get a little bigger. We have 6 more pepper plants of all different kinds, but they are further behind these jalapenos.
I’ve never grown tomatoes or peppers before and am so surprised and happy that they are bearing any vegetables!
We also have loads of herbs and flowers up on the roof. I planted two hibiscus plants. One died when we were on vacation. The other, she’s a beaut! -

Back in 2004 I tried a Polynesian grilled chicken dish. I remember liking it but never made it again. I don’t know why. The other day I was thinking about it because I had fresh herbs, chicken, peppers and onions so I decided to make it again. Dallas made rice (he always makes the rice) and we ate them together. He loved it. Recipe here.

The salad I made with dinner is a pretty standard one for us. Lettuce, mandarin oranges, toasted almonds, edamame, watercress, green onion. I had some mushrooms that day so I threw them in too. For dressing, we either make our own using Dallas’ mom’s secret recipe or we also love Olde Cape Cod toasted sesame, soy, and ginger dressing (all natural and fat free!).
This is our out of control basil that I used in the recipe. It’s almost waist high!

Last month I went to Home Depot with Jen and bought everything I needed to plant some flowers in railing planters on our deck. When I came home from a couple weeks on the road a lot of them were dried up from lack of water (Dallas has also been traveling almost every week for business), but I think with some good trimming and a lot of watering, they’re on the mend. At least I hope. It makes me happy to walk outside and see flowers.

A couple months ago I was walking around the neighborhood and saw that someone had put a perfectly fine plant out on the curb, left for the garbage. I snagged a couple pieces of it and took them home hoping they’d grow roots in a glass of water and they are, but I don’t have any idea how long I have to let them grow before planting the plant. Any ideas?

I came home tonight and thought for a minute that I was at the wrong house. There was a landscaping crew in a truck at my curb and my front yard is completely landscaped with sodded grass and a renovated flower bed. What a nice surprise!
