Family Photos at the Ambassador East

June 30th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Saturday night was Cory & Chris’s wedding reception. They didn’t want a big ceremony, so they got married on their own a while ago, but still held the big party for all of their family and friends. That’s the part everyone likes anyway, right? A lot of wedding guests were staying at the Ambassador East hotel so before heading to Maxim’s for the reception, we took photos at the hotel. As you can see the kids could not have been more adorable. Aunty Laura, Cory’s mom, bought all of the boys tuxedos. Even Kenji, who is only about 7 months old! I couldn’t get enough. So funny to try to take photos of all of them.

Wednesday Night: Wine at Avec. Thursday Night: Chicagoist Staff Happy Hour. Friday Night: Gapers Block Party. Saturday Night: Barbecue/Housewarming at Darren & Cory’s new place. Sunday Night: Dinner & Drinks at Riverview. Luckily, I didn’t get drunk every night, I took it easy. Otherwise, I’d be in rough shape right now. Instead it was a great weekend. And hot, did I mention HOT?

Riverview is pretty much right across the street from Danny & Lori’s so we’ve been known to frequent it regularly. It’s named after the old amusement park that was in operation from the late 1800s to the late 1960s and was located not to far from where the bar is now. Inside are lots of photographs and signs from the old park. It’s cool. Good drink specials ($3 Goose Island Summertime last night) and good food.

This holiday weekend we went from party to party around the Chicago and Milwaukee suburbs to visit with family and friends, exchange gifts, and eat a ton of food. (Thanks to Dallas’ Auntie Laura for letting us borrow her car for the weekend so we didn’t have to rent a car or figure out how to get everywhere via public transportation!)

Friday night we were at Doug & Naoko’s holiday party in Elgin. Noako cooked a lot of really good food, including some wonton soup, sushi, and some kind of crab puffs. I don’t know what was in the crab puffs but they were so good. We had a gift exchange and got to spend a time with friends & family. Those were the high points. The low point: The boys were in the garage playing some made up football game (Danny got a football in the gift exchange). Basically in the game you had to catch the ball and if you didn’t catch it you had to drink a whole beer. Well, something happened out there and Sal rammed into Doug’s car and now there’s 2 dents in it. Sal’s a good-sized guy, but I was wondering – if Doug’s car can be dented by a person, how do you think it’d do in an actuall car accident?

The Competitors – Darren, Sean, Danny, Dallas :: Roscoe Village, Chicago

After too much beer & sake, Cory got the great idea to challenge some of the guys to a cake eating competition. The catch: They couldn’t use their hands. She pulled out $20 and 4 guys stepped up to the plate. The competition was totally cut-throat with everyone taking photos and screaming out the name of the person they wanted to win. I’m very proud to say that Dallas came in dead last. The winner was Darren. He took that whole slice down, including the pudding filling and the glob of balloon-shaped frosting, in less than a minute, I think. He needs to go pro and take on the Black Widow or something. It was so hilarious.. and of course when they were done we didn’t let them wipe that frosting off til we got all of our photos taken!
