Yesterday morning I stopped at CVS before work and bought a Mastercard gift card for an upcoming event. As I was leaving the store I noticed an odd charge on the receipt. Activation Fee? $3.95? Seriously? It never even occurred to me that a gift card might cost more than the face value. Then later on in the day I read this post on Consumerist about the hidden costs in Visa and Mastercard gift cards. Wish I would have read that a few hours sooner!

I can’t understand why the CVS on LaSalle & Kinzie has the deodorant displayed like this. You can’t get any deodorant off the shelf. It says “slide” but since they’re all the way down the shelf, there’s no where to slide to. Do they have such a theft problem that now no one can buy deodorant?

WTF? I did not understand this.
The week after we bought our condo I was at CVS using the Kodak machine to make prints of the photos I took of the new place to send to our parents. While I waited for the prints to come out, this Otis Spunkmeyer muffin display was staring me down. I don’t understand how this is selling muffins. What was the creative director on this campaign thinking? “MMMM kids love giant muffins!”
Also? Otis Spunkmeyer is my new alter ego’s name.
