Green Mill

June 14th, 2011 · No Comments

Ross and his girlfriend Chelsea were in town this weekend. We met up with them at Ribfest, where it was rainy and only about 50 degrees outside. When Ross flew in on Wednesday for work it was 97 degrees. He didn’t even pack a coat. Little did he know how fickle Chicago weather is!

We wandered around Ribfest for a while, drank some beer. Dallas and I stopped to talk to Josh at the Smoke Daddy booth. We also shared some kalbi ribs (and both agreed that when we make them they are better!). To use up some tickets and get out of the rain we had some corndogs and onion rings.

We then met up with some other friends – Todd, Brian, Sara, Brett – at Corner 41, which was kind of a mistake. It was nice to get out of the rain, but the bar had pretty much run out of beer. We bought their last 5 Coors Lights and they were all warm. I hate Coors Light, but I put it on ice and it actually was not that bad. Honestly, it tasted like water.

Chelsea used to live in Chicago and wanted to take Ross to the Green Mill, Chicago’s historic jazz club. I’d never been there and also wanted to go, so I tagged along. It was pretty cool, even if you’re not that into jazz, you should go once. That night’s jazz quartet consisted of drums, bass, and two saxophone’s. The band was called Mike Reed’s People, Places & Things.

We only stayed for a drink and one set, but it was enough to get a feel for the place. Ross and Chelsea went back to their downtown hotel and I went back to Logan Square where I met up with Dallas for a late night beer and slice of pizza at Boiler Room.

Packers Preseason Game

September 21st, 2008 · 1 Comment

These photos are from a Packers preseason game I went to on August 28. My cousin Kelly and her husband Jeff had a set of four tickets and Jeff’s brother had another set of four tickets. Kelly and Jeff sat by Jeff’s brother and his girlfriend. I sat with my dad, my brother and my sister-in-law. Kelly and Jeff live in De Pere and won the right to purchase the tickets in some sort of Brown County resident lottery.

This was the last preseason game before regular season started. Our first stringers only played for one series, which resulted in a touchdown. After that, it was all secondary. The Packers ended up losing after a touchdown was reviewed and taken back. It didn’t really matter for anything, though. We still had a great time.

We parked in some guy’s front lawn. Somehow he fit about 6 or 8 cars on his tiny city lot. He told us not to worry about the flowers, so I’m pretty sure we were parked right on his wife’s gardening. I think we paid $10 for the spot. It was a short walk to Lambeau Field. This is my brother, Richard, my cousin, Kelly, and my dad, Rick, walking to the game.

Some people tailgating. Tons of tailgaters out, of course.

This was the entrance closest to our seats. You can see my sister-in-law, Amanda, in the lower left-hand corner.

Just before entering Lambeau Field. My dad, my sister-in-law, my brother.

The Don Hutson Center as seen from Lambeau Field. This is where the Packers practice. Once a long time ago, my friend Jessie and I went to see them train. They all ride local kids’ bikes back to Lambeau to shower and whatnot. Brett Favre was there, of course. I got my shirt signed by a player who never even made it one season, I think.

Looking back down on the entrance.

This was the first time we could remember seeing Coors at Lambeau Field. We were betting it was because of the Miller/Coors merger.

Me and my brother. We got the pom poms for free when we walked in. Some promotion. I can’t even remember now. Here are photos of my brother and I at Lambeau Field in 1999 and 2005.

Sums up how some people feel about the Favre situation.

Our tickets.

The field.

Amen!

If you look close you can see the wave. It went around a bunch of times.

The field again.

Me and Amanda. Yeh, I had a few beers!

I’ve been going through these photos all day today getting psyched for the game tonight. I have to keep it in check, though, because they are playing the Cowboys. Dallas and I have an agreement not to get to crazy…. all our friends tease that someone will be moving out before the night is over, but we’ve survived 2 Green Bay vs. Dallas games so far in our relationship, hopefully we can stand another. Cross your fingers… and GO PACKERS!
