Aunty Gail Talks Korean Soap Operas in the Chicago Tribune

May 25th, 2010 · No Comments

My coworker Pek has a friend who is a reporter at the Chicago Tribune who was looking for people in the Chicago area who watch Korean soap operas for a story she was working on. Dallas’s aunties are big fans so I passed the information along.

Last week Aunty Gail emailed us to let us know that the story was out in the paper.

Aunty Gail was interviewed and appeared in the story. She was excited they used her name and interview but said she could have done without them publishing her age!

Over the weekend we were in Schaumburg for Danny & Caroline’s wedding shower and Aunty Gail was telling everyone about the story. Pretty exciting. Dallas teases her about the line where she says the show “would run funny.” I’m sure he gets a lot of tech issues where things are “running funny.”

Here’s a PDF of the article.

Columbia College, The Loop, Chicago

Last night Scott and I were invited to speak at Columbia College. We were joined by Jessa Crispin of Bookslut fame. It was nice to finally meet her. The instructor was Rob Elder, who also writes for the Chicago Tribune, and the class was on reporting and writing. There were only about a dozen students, so it was fun and more like a conversation than a presentation. We talked about Chicagoist and how we write and run the site and also how to blog and write if you want to get noticed. Lots of fun.
