Green Bay Packers Breakfast Blitz

February 26th, 2010 · 2 Comments

One of the gifts I got in our crazy exchange at Kelly & Jeff’s was a 3-pack of Green Bay Packers Breakfast Blitz cereal. These are basically just knock offs of Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios and Frosted Flakes and taste pretty much the same as the name brand cereals. I found this article about Breakfast Blitz in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Breakfast cereal celebrates Packers’ 90th anniversary

The Green Bay Packers are commemorating their 90th anniversary with a breakfast cereal called Breakfast Blitz. The cereal is sold exclusively at Pick ‘n Save and Copps stores operated by Roundy’s Supermarkets Inc. in Wisconsin under a license agreement with the team.

The Packers are the fourth NFL team to have their own cereal, according to Craig Benzel, director of marketing for the team. They join the Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals on the breakfast table.

The cereal licenses represent a departure from standard NFL licensing rules, which required a manufacturer to pay for an NFL license and make products for every team in the league, Benzel said. The NFL makes exceptions for certain products to be licensed for individual teams if they are sold in local markets, he said.

Fake Milk

Cocoa Krispies

Dallas loves Cocoa Krispies so we always have it in the cupboard. The other day the box was left out and I noticed that the “milk” in the product photo is the fakest (new word) looking milk I’ve ever seen. It looks like pieces of plastic positioned in the cereal.. which is probably exactly what it is.

Glenn’s Diner Seafood Restaurant

Glenn’s Diner

The last time I saw Rob was about a year ago when he was in town to do the race to Mackinac Island. He and Killian do it every year and this year he’s in town again for the same thing.

We all wanted to get together to go to dinner on Friday night while Rob was in town and Killian suggested Glenn’s Diner. I had never even heard of it but I was down for a low-key diner. Turns out Glenn’s isn’t much like a diner at all and that they specialize in seafood. Really good, fresh seafood.

The owner of Glenn’s, Glenn Fahlstrom used to be at Davis Street Fish Market in Evanston before he opened is own place. It’s obvious that he knows his seafood. We had blue crabcakes and seared scallops for appetizers. For our entrees, Liz, Christina and I all got the Pretzelled Walleye (encrusted with pretzels and pan fried), Dallas got the Kajiki Blue Marlin (chargrilled with creamy scampi sauce), and Killian got the Copper River Salmon (only available for 3 weeks each year). Everything was cooked perfectly. Dallas and I really enjoyed it, but we both love fresh seafood, so that’s not surprising. We’ll definitely be back.

Oh, and Glenn’s does serve breakfast (all day) and lunch. And one of the things on the breakfast menu that they’re kind of known for is the cereal with free seconds and thirds. So, they have all these cereals on display behind their bar.
