I posted before about how the Walgreens in Bucktown is in an old bank building. A few weeks ago I was in the area and had to pick something up. I went downstairs saw the Vitamin Vault, which is in the bank’s old vault. Pretty cool!

I didn’t make any holiday treats this year and my parents brought over all of our favorites, but I still couldn’t resist making this one cookie, once I got it in my head. My aunt Deb was posting some treats she was making and I remembered this one from our many Christmases at her house. She gave me the recipe and I whipped the cookies up quick on Christmas Day. These cookies can be a little tricky (I had one or two blowouts), but I really like how they turned out. Next time I’d double them because they don’t make a big batch, especially if you screw a few up, like I did!

Note: Aunt Deb recommended using Haviland Thin Mints because they’re small and thin. I’d never heard of them and she suggested I look at Walgreen’s. So, one night after dinner with Jess (which included 2 margaritas and then 2 beers), I went to the 24-hour Walgreen’s in Bucktown. That was interesting. I couldn’t find the Haviland brand, but I found these Nice! (Walgreen’s store brand) mints and they worked pretty good. I would like to experiment with other types of Andes or other chocolates.

One other note: I noticed Aunt Deb’s recipe said it was from Betty Crocker’s Cooky Book, which I own. Just thought that was ironic that I was asking for a recipe that I already have :).
