Blowing out the candles!

Last minute, we decided to join Adam and a bunch of other friends at Piece for pizza and beer. Makai was being kind of…. one second he was happy and the next he was screaming his head off for no reason. We made the decision while he was napping and were not sure what would happen when he woke up. Luckily he was on perfect behavior at both Piece and when we went to Lucky’s afterwards so some of the guys could play darts!

Dallas thought he hadn’t been to Piece for a year or so.. and I’d say that I haven’t been there for years (multiple..2008?), even though we’re around it often. They had a cleverly named beer called “Marketing Ploy,” which is a collaboration with Three Floyds. The beer was good and many at our table enjoyed it. To be honest, though, I think that the pizza was more of a marketing ploy than the beer. Piece was featuring a special pie that was made in collaboration with Honey Butter Fried Chicken and had their fried chicken on the pizza. Everyone raves about honey butter’s fried chicken, but this pie was nothing special. I think everyone preferred the other pizzas we ordered.

Anyway, it was nice to be back at Piece and out with friends. And to have a well-behaved baby that everyone gushed over. And I’d never been to Lucky’s and liked it’s cool, relaxed vibe.

Fun Weekend With Friends and Family

Friday: Amanda came down to watch Makai while Dallas and I went out for the night. First we had some happy hour drinks downtown with Jessica, Todd, Adam, Brian and Damien. Then we headed to the Roundarch Isobar holiday party at Siena Tavern. After 11 weeks, it was so nice to see all of my work friends, but it really did drive home the fact that I only have a few weeks left until I go back to work! Still a fun night. As per usual with the Isobar holiday parties: great food, endless open bar, lots of fun. This was the most drinks I’ve had in one night in literally a year. And the longest I stayed up forever (not counting New Years, when Makai was with us). Paired with the fact that I’d been sick the two previous days, I lost my voice for the whole weekend. So worth it, though!

Saturday: Amanda decided to stay over one more night instead of driving home and driving back on Sunday. We ate bacon all day and went to brunch at Revolution Brewing where she met her new favorite beer: Gravedigger Billy, a barrel-aged scotch ale.

Sunday: Richard, Stephanie and Jessica came down. We had lunch/brunch at the Goose Island Brewpub on Clybourn. Amanda met another new favorite beer: Extremely Naughty Goose, an imperial brown ale with a chocolate and whiskey flavor. I had the London Fog, a milk stout with chocolate and Earl Grey tea, and really liked that. We also both had more bacon in the form of bacon jam! This trip to Goose Island was Makai’s second restaurant outing (not counting Starbucks). I don’t think he even knew he went, though. He slept the whole time!

After lunch, Jess, Steph, Amanda and Makai went home and Richard and I went and saw The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. We have seen all of the Hobbit and LOTR movies together.

Makai’s First Thanksgiving

December 14th, 2013 · 1 Comment

Now that it’s almost Christmas, I finally got a chance to look at some photos from Thanksgiving! We actually went to two Thanksgiving celebrations. A couple weeks before the day, Aunty Laura had some family out to her house in the suburbs for a big dinner. Dallas’s parents were in town and I think they were surprised at how many kids there are now!

Who would have seen this day coming? Dallas and Danny, still drinking beers and talking story, but with BABIES.

On Thanksgiving day, the actual day, we headed up to Evanston to Jill and Brian’s house. It was a small get together with just their immediate family. Nice and relaxed.

I drank a glass of wine, my first alcoholic beverage in about a year, and then fell asleep on the chair.

Quinn and Halle provided the entertainment! As you can see, they’re in constant motion. Always!
