Back in February I was hanging out with Allison and we went to Bombon Bakery & Cafe near her condo in the West Loop to get a cake for Kristin’s birthday that night. We had already had lunch, but Allison said that Bombon had really great sandwiches.

A few months later… ok, it was just a week or two ago… I noticed that there was a Bombon Cafe on Washington Street right where I get off the train every day. I don’t think it’s been there too long, although the front is really pretty nondescript, so I wouldn’t be surprised. Jess, Traci and I tried it out for lunch one day and it was fantastic. Greg and I planned to get lunch yesterday and I suggested we go. It was great.

Bombon is a full bakery as well as cafe and it while it has a wide selection of pastries, much of them and the cafe menu are Mexican. So far I’ve only had sandwiches, but there are 16 different Mexican sandwiches to choose from and so far every one has been delicious. I’m going to work my way down the list, I swear. When you walk in, you get in line and order then either take your food down or sit with your number and your food will be delivered. The bakery section is in the back and you can order from the bakery case separately. They have everything from cookies to tortes to great big huge cakes.

I was hesitant to post this because sometimes the line can get long already, but I love this place and hope they open more. They’ve already got 3 or 4 around the city.

Kelly and Jeff are moving from Virginia to Wisconsin. Jeff’s job starts on Monday and so this weekend he’s driving out. Kelly and Tessa will move after their house sells. What a bad weekend to drive across the country, though. The weather is horrible with rain, sleet, hail, ice, snow, everything. Jeff’s goal was to make it to Chicago and stay overnight at our house, but he only made it to Indiana before he pulled off because the roads were so bad.

I had planned on staying home to meet Jeff, but when he called to say he was staying at a hotel, then I went and helped celebrate Kristin’s birthday. I didn’t get many photos because we were all sitting at a really long table and I was tucked in the middle. Still fun. Dallas and I left early after eating an having only a couple drinks because he’d just flown in from California where he was for business all week. Good thing Jeff pulled off when he did. When we got home everything was covered with a sheet of ice. Hopefully he’ll have better luck driving today, although the forecast looks pretty bad.

Happy Birthday, Kristin!
