Weekend Quickie

October 3rd, 2014 · 1 Comment

The CTA car was plastered with these ads for Weekend Quickie, which seemed crazy, since the ads appear to be for a site that allows people to find quick hookups. In reality, I think it’s all a campaign promoting St. Louis.

The Closing of the California Blue Line Station

September 4th, 2014 · 1 Comment

I took these photos in the California Blue Line station yesterday morning. As of today, the station will be closed for renovations for 42 days. I still have no idea what my alternate commute plans are.

This morning I contemplated waiting for the bus at California and Milwaukee, but there were about 50 people waiting for the bus that was not scheduled to arrive for another 9 minutes. So I just walked to the Western Blue Line station, which is about a mile away, a 15 minute walk.

Here are a couple photos at the closed down station this morning:

Blue Line Rehab is Getting Painful

August 11th, 2014 · No Comments

I was on a walk yesterday looking at the CTA Blue Line construction that has closed our closest station, California, several times this summer, for several days each time. Not only has our access to the train been limited, but the construction has also closed our street and ally a few times. Yesterday I couldn’t even get our car out because one end was blocked by the CTA construction and the other end was blocked by some AT&T line work.

I shouldn’t have been complaining so much! This morning we woke up to news that the California station will be closing for 6 weeks, beginning just after Labor Day! I guess it could be worse. The Damen station is closing for 9 weeks, after California reopens, and in the colder months!

I know this is all for the greater good. The Blue Line can be slow and our station is really showing its age, but after going through the big Brown Line rehab a few years back when we lived in Roscoe Village, it’s all still fresh in our minds!

Time to Google and see if walking to the Logan Square stop or walking to Western is faster. I don’t think the #56 bus is an option because the traffic through Bucktown and Wicker Park is horrible during rush hours. AHHHHHHHHH!!!
