Around 9:30 we left Jen and Chad’s party and headed down to Wicker Park where Todd was hosting a party. We did this same thing two years ago when Todd hosted a party, and sort of did last year, except the party was at Frasca, not Todd’s house. Dallas brought our Wii over the night before and we all played that. We also played some good, old-fashioned Pictionary. We each put in $10 and the girls won all the money! Kelly made some delicious jello shots with real cherries in them and some fantastic mystery punch.

At midnight we toasted with Dom Perignon and some Sofia by Francis Ford Coppola Winery. A few people have asked me how the Dom was, since it’s known to be expensive and one of the best champagnes. To be honest, it tasted like champagne. Good champagne, but it was the only one at the party so I couldn’t compare and I’m not a huge connoisseur of champagne. Katjie, on the other hand, said she loves champagne and that it was great, so I’ll take her word for it. I also really liked the Sophia sparkling white.

I don’t know what happened after midnight. It’s a bit of a blur. Haha. Someone (ADAM!?) had my camera and took about a thousand photos. Dallas said I took them, but I’m in a lot of the photos, so that can’t be. Anyway, fun party. Great New Years Eve overall.

Everyone was fearful that it was going to start raining right when Matt and Molly’s wedding ceremony was about to begin. But it didn’t. We got through the ceremony and then once we were all under the tent, it down poured. Sound familiar?

Matt & Molly’s wedding was beautiful.. and good thing that it didn’t last too long because it was HOT. There were a limited number of chairs that mostly older guests and people who needed to be up front sat in. Otherwise we all just kind of stood around casually. There was supposed to be a cocktail hour after the ceremony, but everyone started drinking from the bar beforehand, so half the people were standing around watching the ceremony with glasses of wine. .. er.. um… not including me?

All of Molly’s nephews and nieces had parts in the wedding except for the youngest, Annie, who is only about 4 weeks old. Buddy and Bella are Matt and Molly’s dogs and they were also a part of the wedding. .. whether they knew it or not. Matt’s good friend Bo read a Native American Prayer and Matt’s sister-in-law Sarah read the Song of Solomon (2:10-13). Molly’s friend Emily played cello during the ceremony. Matt is half Jewish so his grandmother, Shirley, read a Jewish blessing and then he did the thing where he stomps on the glass. The bride and groom kiss and then we were out of there. Even though we only had to walk about 10 steps to get drinks at cocktail hour and then 20 more to get to the big tent set up in the yard.

Matt & Molly got married in Molly’s mom’s backyard and that’s where they rehearsed the wedding ceremony the night before the event was to take place. The yard is so green and plush and beautiful. Too bad that the sun was so severe and some of the photos are kind of strange. Luckily the next day was a big more cloudy, even if it was just as hot. Everyone’s dressed up for the rehearsal because immediately afterwards we went out for rehearsal dinner at the country club which required a jacket and tie for the guys and dresses for the ladies.

Picnic at Wononscopomuc Lake

We were finishing hiking right around the time that the guys were finishing golfing so we decided to meet up with them for lunch. They ran and grabbed sandwiches, chips and drinks from the store and met us at Wononscopomuc Lake (also known as Lakeville Lake), the deepest lake in Connecticut. Molly and Janie are Hotchkiss School alum so they took us to that part of the lake, which was nice because there were only about 3 other people there. We sat around and ate our lunch and then went for a swim in the lake. There was a lot of boys throwing boys off the dock sort of shenanigans… which I was fine with, as long as no one was throwing me of the dock!

While the guys went hiking the girls slept off our hangovers and then did some sunbathing. Finally we got motivated enough to go on the hike we’d planned on doing. We went on the Lion’s Head trail, which is part of the Appalachian Trail. It was a 4.6-mile round trip hike. Most of it was mostly easy but there were a few parts that were quite strenuous. Especially since it was noon, really hot and humid, we were hungry and hungover, and I was wearing flip flops and a skirt. Still, I told myself if Bella, Matt and Molly’s 13-year-old dog, could do it, then I could too. It was worth it in the end to see the sweeping views of Northwest Connecticut and The Berkshires.
