Sansei Seafood & Sushi

March 29th, 2011 · No Comments

For our last dinner in Hawaii we met up with Cory, Chris, Danny and Caroline for dinner at Sansei. This is one of our favorite Waikiki restaurants. We even had gone to dinner there earlier in the trip. We were hoping that the Big Island restaurant would be as good as the Waikiki one, and it was. We gorged on all of our usual favorites as well as trying some new things. Dallas enjoyed a Japanese beer called Koshihikari Echigo. Us ladies were drinking lychee martinis. They were so delicious. I was on my third one when this happened:

I took a few sips and was going to eat my lychee when i noticed something in it. I thought it was part of a pit and was going to pick it out, when I noticed it was a bee!!!! After Cory took a few photos, our waitress was quick to apologize and brought out a complimentary replacement for the drink. So crazy!

Great dinner, though. I was sad that it was the last dinner of our trip, but we went out in style. I was so stuffed, and kind of drunk, by the end of that night!

Rummikub at the Beach

Our last day at the beach was last Friday. For lunch we headed to our now favorite restaurant, The Skipper, and got our now favorite clam chowder. This was our 3rd visit to The Skipper in just over a week (visit 1, visit 2). Julie got the lobster roll, I got a crab roll and Jess had a hankering for ribs, so that’s what she got. It was all great. I love The Skipper and loved that it was right across the street from “our beach.”

Oh, I almost forgot. On the way to the beach I got stung by a bee. I barely even saw it and for sure didn’t recognize to get away from it. My hand just like hit it and it stung the padded part of my palm just down from my thumb. I could see the stinger and it hurt really bad. Attached to the stinger was part of the bee’s body and it was moving. I kind of freaked because I knew I wouldn’t be able to hold still enough to remove the stinger. Luckily Julie heard my yelling and ran over, pulled the stinger out and saved the day. My brother and my niece are allergic to bees, so I was scared for a few minutes.. but then I was eating clam chowder and my face hadn’t swollen up or anything so I figured I was fine. And I was. I just held ice in my hand for a while at the restaurant. My hand was tender for a few days, but that’s about it.

After lunch we went back to the beach. We didn’t want to leave it!! The next day we had to drive back to Jersey and we wanted to prolong the beach time. We spread out our towels and blanket and played Rummikub, Jess’s favorite game of all time. I can remember playing this game on the beach at the Cape in 2002, when New York got 20″ of snow in 2003, and even during the blackout in New York that same year. I won the first game with that 7. Jess, the sore loser that she is, then had to cancel our second game … saying she had something in her eye or something and she had to leave. Just kidding.. her eye really was messed up. At least it was a real reason to make us leave the beach or we might have been there all night!

Around Milwaukee

Walking to Summerfest along Lake Michigan.

The US Bank Center is the tallest building in WI. It is 42 stories. The Empire State Building is the tallest building in NY. It is 102 stories.

We were at Summerfest to see Ben Folds. He played on the Piggly Wiggly stage. I’d been dying to see him live for years. Unfortunately, because of the way the audience area was set up we were barely able catch glimpses of him.

This was our view for most of the concert.

Ben Folds. You don’t know what I had to do to get this photo.

Lately I’ve been watching a lot of this A&E program called America’s Castles. It features beautiful mansions around the country and gives you a tour of the house and it’s history. The Pabst Mansion was one of the houses featured and so when I got the chance, I drug my entire family there to tour it.

Outside the Pabst Mansion. Photos inside are not allowed even though I took one inside one of the bathrooms that I plan to submit to The Mirror Project soon.

Amanda, Richard, Stephanie, Jessica and I went mini-golfing. I won’t say who won, but it wasn’t me.

Mini golf course.

I think Jess slept through the entire mini golf game and the ice cream treats that followed it.

Bumblebee in the grass.

Going to see the iMax movie Bugs. Nancy holding Jessica.

Amanda and Jessica watching the iMax movie.

After the movie we ate at Rudy’s Mexican Restaurant. Mom & Dad got done eating first so they got nominated to feed Jessica.

After only one beer dad goes all silly carrying around mom’s purse.

One of our many trips to Culver’s for frozen custard. Dad and Richard pretend to give Jess her first taste.

Jess’s first time bowling!

I’m not very good at bowling… then again, I only do it about once every other year..

Dad and Stephie bowled on the bumper lane. Mom, Amanda, Richard and I bowled on the lane to the left of it.

As you can see, I suck bad at bowling.
