Josh and Billy’s Visit

Josh and Billy visited us this weekend. Josh from Los Angeles and Billy from San Francisco. Dallas and Billy went to high school together and Josh and Billy went to college together. By coincidence, I think, they all lived in Boston at the same time a few years back and became the best of friends…. and Celtics fans, even though none of them are from Boston originally.

On Sunday, the Chicago Bulls played the Boston Celtics at the United Center. This was the reason for the visit. They came in to see the game. Killian joined them as the only Bulls fan in the group. I’m not much of a basketball fan, but I will admit that I turned the game on and was sucked in. It was so close and went into double overtime. Killian was elated that the Bulls won. I don’t think the Celtics fans were too depressed. They’re still holding out hope for the series and were glad they got to see a good game.

rachelle_dallas_smallThe night before the game we were trying to figure out where to go for dinner. Billy is a beer connoisseur and was interested in local beers, so we decided to go to Goose Island Brew Pub. I thought the food was just alright there. .. I do enjoy the beer, though. Also, the one on Clybourn is kind of a weird, strip mall, suburban feel. We still had a great time.

Here’s a photo of Josh and Billy having a romantic drink together.

So, we had a great weekend. It had been a long while since I saw Josh because I missed his visit with Tweeny last year. I saw Billy and Ging when we were all in Maine last August, but that was still quite some time ago. Next time we see them they’ll have an addition to their family. Exciting!

Dallas and I just got back this afternoon from a four-day trip to Connecticut. We were visiting because Dallas was a groomsman in Molly & Matt’s wedding. We had a tremendous time seeing many friends and family and meeting even more people there. Matt and Molly and their friends and family’s kindness and hospitality are remarkable and we always have a great time.

These photos were taken our first night in Connecticut. People were starting to trickle in for the wedding and we all went out for dinner at The White Hart Inn in Salisbury. After dinner we stayed at the Inn to watch the Lakers/Celtics game. Matt and Molly live in the Boston area as do many of their friends and family so everyone was cheering for the Celtics. Dallas is also a big Celtics fan from when he lived in Boston. After the game the guys called it a night because they had an early tee time, but the girls had some wild and crazy fun trying to get over served, busting a Lexus, breaking into another car, trying to track down striped shirt guy, figuring out how to get an outdoor hot tub to work in the dead of the night and catching up and gossiping til the wee hours.

The only thing to mar the trip was that we were supposed to come back last night and all flights from Hartford to Chicago were canceled. We couldn’t get out until this morning so we had to stay overnight at a hotel. We chose the Comfort Suites because they had a “distressed travelers” rate of $89. Their rooms are normally $119, which was already less than a couple other hotels we called, so that worked out good. It was a nice hotel too, only a year old. Of course today they made us fly into Dulles and then sit there for a few hours. The only good thing was that I had a voucher for a free upgrade and they let me do it. So I had first class seating. But then when we got on the plane we had to sit on the tarmac for two more hours. And then when we got to Chicago our gate was occupied. Some crazy times traveling this weekend. But now we’re finally home. Dallas had to run to work and get some things done and tomorrow morning he has to fly out to Louisiana on business. No rest! You know it was all worth it, though. We had such a fantastic time in Connecticut!

More on the rest of the trip in upcoming posts!

March Madness @ Messners

On Thursday I avoided watching basketball because it was “Lost night.” On Friday I avoided it by playing Rock Band with Paul and Kate. By Saturday there was no avoiding it. A whole lot of our friends were all at Messners watching all of the games. It was a nice day out. I enjoyed sitting in a sunny window and talking with friends, but I could really care less about basketball. After a while I walked over to Anthropologie, which I’d been eying across the street from the window I was sitting in, for a shopping break. Then back to basketball for a couple more hours. For dinner we ordered in with Jen, Chad and Quinn.

I only had a second to take this photo in a giant mirror we were facing. I think it sums up our day, but I was a little disappointed that my camera focused on the people behind us instead of us. I hate it when you want a do-over like 12 hours later.

Also, check out all the hammered brass decorations. It’s like Messners bought a bunch of stuff from Tre Via when they went out of business or something. I was texting Erin about it and sending cell photos because she knows the guy who owned Tre Via. I can’t remember if this is how that place actually looked inside, but I remember the exterior being kind of crazy and in my head it made sense. Then again, this image is proving the crazy exterior memory wrong, so maybe I’m thinking of someplace else altogether. Then again, the internet wayback machine is proving me sort of right. Aaaaaaannnnywayyy…
