Pretty blurry, but Naoko is always the cutest pregnant lady. And she told me she’s never gotten morning sickness!

On Sunday Aunty Laura hosted an early Thanksgiving dinner at her house. I think Laura does this every year but we have only been able to go one other time, in 2008. Funny Naoko was pregnant then too, and Tommy was about Kenji’s age. Doug and Noako are expecting the baby in January and they don’t know if it’s a boy or girl. I hope it’s a girl!

Great food. Good to see everyone again. We hadn’t seen much of these guys since early September.

Every year some of Dallas’ family in the suburbs have an early Thanksgiving dinner because everyone disperses the the week of the holiday. This year was the first year we joined them for their celebration. We had a lot of fun and ate a ton of great food, which Danny, of course, had a big hand in making. I brought the cranberry bars I’d made earlier that day. Caroline and I got a sneak peek at Cory’s wedding dress and we also all gave Doug and Naoko a few gifts for the baby they’ll be having in a few weeks. They knew Tommy was going to be a boy, but this one is going to be a surprise. Exciting times on that side of the family.

On the eve of Christmas Eve we went to dinner at Dallas’ Aunt Laura’s house. Danny and Cory were there, too, as well as their doggies, Maggie and Zoe. Laura’s actual grandson, Hideto, hadn’t arrived yet from California, so the pooches got a lot of spoiling. Including new doggie beds by the fireplace at grandma’s house, a new dog bed for Maggie to bring home and a new shearling jacket for Zoe.

For dinner we had Aunt Laura’s special flank steak and some pork wontons. Dallas’ family’s dinners are always a mix of Asian and American cultures, so we also had edamame, kimchi, tofu, rice and deviled eggs.

After dinner we trimmed the tree, which was in such dire shape that I later learned that Danny and Laura went out the next day and bought a new one and started over. Still fun. We opened a few gifts also and then had coffee and tea and dessert.

A nice way to kick off the holiday weekend.

** Does anyone know what would be causing my camera to sometimes take photos like the one of Corie trimming the tree? I’ve also been having memory card errors where it will just show up as “corrupted data” instead of the photos.

I want my baby back, baby back, baby back

OK. They weren’t baby back ribs, but they were delicious!

After the wedding we stayed over at Dallas’ aunt’s (conveniently vacationing in Hawaii!) house in Bartlett. The next morning Danny got up really early, went grocery shopping and started smoking the ribs. About 4 hours later we feasted like kings!

Maybe it was just me but the suburbs felt like they were about 10-15 degrees hotter than the city. Also, the heat from the grill.. sitting on the deck.. whew!

Re the hydrant and sign, I’d never seen hydrants marked like this before. Lori said it was for the winter so the plows don’t plow over the hydrants. If that’s so then why don’t hydrants everywhere have signs?
