Outside Living Room

June 23rd, 2008 · 2 Comments

On Saturday Jen and Chad invited us over to watch the Cubs game at noon and a soccer match at 2 p.m. It was a gorgeous day and you’d think we wouldn’t want to spend time inside watching TV, but that’s why Jen and Chad have an outside living room! That way we can enjoy the weather and landscaping, let the dogs run around a bit, have a barbecue, let Quinn play in the sandbox or pool, and get in some rounds of beer pong, all while keeping an eye on the game score. FYI, I”m terrible at beer pong. I should have played ping pong more at Google. There was at least one time where I emptied my cup just on my own bad serves!

On Sunday I babysat for Quinn while Jen and Chad went to the Cubs game. He’s gotten so much bigger since the last time I babysat. .. he can totally get around the whole house now. He’s not walking but he can crawl fast. I made the mistake of giving him his bottle too early and then when he actually was tired he had a hard time going to bed with just a pacifier. Still, he is a great baby overall and I’m glad we get to see him so often.

Happy Birthday, Quinn

April 12th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Last night we watched Quinn so that Jen and Chad could get some time out and go to see a show at the Old Town School of Folk Music. Quinn celebrated his first birthday last weekend but we weren’t able to go to the party because we were in New Orleans. (Btw, that was the day for parties. We also missed Liz & Killian’s engagement party and Stephanie and Amanda’s birthday party that same day!) We had Quinn open his gift from us last night. Mostly, he just wanted to eat the card and the wrapping paper. We got him a book called “Good Night Chicago” and made a donation to a selected charity in his name, as requested by Jen and Chad in lieu of gifts. I can’t believe Quinn is a year old already! Then again, he’s only been home from the hospital for something like six months, so it has seemed like a lot less time.

Speghettios

The last time I was at the supermarket I passed down the canned foods isle and the Speghettios with meatballs called out to me. Tonight I had them for dinner, along with a grilled cheese sandwich – the perfect meal if you’re like 6 years old.

Whenever I think of Speghettios I think of a time in junior high when I went along with my cousin, Dawn, to babysit for some little kid that lived near her family’s home in Fremont, WI. We were all sharing some Speghettios with meatballs for lunch. I remember convincing the kid that the meatballs were made of horse meat. He got so grossed out that he gave me all of his meatballs. Score!
