Roundarch Team Dinner at Prosecco

August 29th, 2011 · No Comments

Last week we had a Roundarch team dinner at Prosecco, an Italian restaurant on the Near North Side. Prosecco has a huge selection of wine and one of the largest selections of Italian sparkling wine in Chicago.

I’d never been to Prosecco before and the menu online looked good, so I was excited to try this place. Upstairs the dining room was really pretty and brightly lit. Our private party was taking place downstairs in the private room/wine cellar.

Before dinner we enjoyed some Italian wines, prosecco (of course), and Italian beer.

For dinner we were all seated at four tables. There were menus at the table and each course had several things listed.

Primi

  • Mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, carrots, red wine vinaigrette

Secondi

  • Rigatoni, pancetta, italian sausage, light tomato cream sauce
  • Risotto, sauteed beef tenderloin, diced tomatoes, fresh herbs, Parmigiano-Reggiano
  • Orecchiette, wild mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, asparagus, black truffle cream, shaved Grana Padano, white truffle oil

Terzi

  • Sauteed monk fish medallions, sauteed spinach, lobster sauce drizzle
  • Scaloppine of pork, cremini mushrooms, Prosciutto di Parma, Marsala wine reduction
  • Balsamic-marinated chicken breast, basil-bread crumbs, portabello mushrooms, fresh mozarella, Dolcetto d’Alba reduction, asparagus
  • Grilled egplant, fresh and smoked mozarella, tomato sauce

Quarti

  • Baked apple tart, caramel drizzle
  • Chocolate flourless cake, crema inglese, mixed berry sauce
  • Peach gelato and lemon-basil sorbet

I thought we would be choosing what we wanted from each course, but it ended up that they served everything family style.

Back at our table, our candles were really melting down! I guess we’d been there a while.

For some reason people at our table were discussing the things that should never be discussed at work outings: Politics and Religion.

The big bosses said a few words of thanks and appreciation.

Oh, and a few behind the scenes photos from a secret team project taken earlier in the evening:

Bon Voyage!

February 12th, 2011 · 3 Comments

Last night Anjum and Aimee (and Garrett and Eric for a while) took me out for some after work drinks to wish me bon voyage and best wishes on the wedding. We were going to get wine and cheese like we did when I got engaged, but the place we wanted to go to didn’t open early enough. So we ended up just going next door to Moe’s Cantina, which is just fine for after-work drinks, but I heard gets extra douchey later at night.

Most people were drinking red sangria, but since I’d just been to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned a few hours earlier, I stuck with the clear liquors and drank caipirinhas and margaritas. We also figured we needed to do a shot. I suggested SoCo and lime, which is my new favorite shot, since Josh got it for us last weekend.

Just a few days to go now. Lots of errands to run this weekend and a few loose ends to tidy up. Packing Monday/Tuesday and then we’re off!

Bombay Wraps

January 13th, 2011 · No Comments

Back in November, Anjum and I decided to try out a relatively new Loop fast-food restaurant called Bombay Wraps. I was excited. Fast Indian food within walking distance of the office? Sign me up!

Bombay Wraps is small, so we got our food to go. You choose whether you want chicken tikka, chicken reshmi, potato tava, steak boti, cheese paneer, or lamb curry and you can get any of them either in a paratha (flaky, layered flatbread) or 100% whole wheat roti. I got the chicken tikka, which is grilled boneless chicken marinated in traditional Tandoori spices, finished with pickled onions, fresh cilantro chutney and a light garlic and ginger sauce.

The wraps were good, but the thing is, they were SO small. Like I should have gotten two of them, but at $4-6 each, doubling up makes it kind of an expensive lunch. I might go back just because it’s something different for lunch, but I’m not rushing to get there. Maybe next time I’ll try a side, too. They have sweet potato fries, samosa, and a bombay salad for $2 each.

Every year Roundarch has a summer event (see 2009, 2008), but this year’s event was extra special because we were also celebrating our 10 year anniversary.

This summer everyone was flown in from all the other offices and everyone stayed at the Trump. Many, many meetings were held there and then our party was at the Shedd Aquarium. The drinks were flowing all night long and the food was very good as well. I felt a little weird about eating sushi at the Aquarium, but not so bad that I didn’t indulge in it! It was fun to see everyone that I work with in all the other offices. Great party, Roundarch!

Flirty Cupcakes

July 29th, 2010 · No Comments

Flirty Cupcakes is an interesting concept. Cupcakes are made daily at Kitchen Chicago, a commercially licensed, shared use kitchen. They then take the cupcakes and drive them around in a truck, ok a van, and sell them all over the city. You can follow Flirty Cupcakes on Twitter or Facebook to find out where they are and then head down from your office (or home) to get your sweet fix for the afternoon.

I’ve been watching for Flirty Cupcakes since they made their debut in April, but they haven’t been nearby me…. until this week.

On Monday I saw Flirty Cupcakes tweet that they were at the Merchandise Mart, just a block from my office, so I grabbed my coworker Anjum and we headed over.

They have 7 flavors of cupcakes plus a weekly special.

I got the cupcake named The McDreamy.

The McDreamy is a chocolate cupcake with a chocolate-cream cheese filling.

So, how was it? I’m not all caught up in this cupcake craze that has been going on for like 10 years or something, and I don’t eat cupcakes on a regular basis. That said, I thought it was a good solid cupcake. It wasn’t like blowing-my-mind good, but it was very good. And you can’t beat walking less than a block to get this sweet treat. Watch for the Flirty Cupcakes truck to come near you. You won’t be disappointed.
