Rehabbing Andy’s Deli, East Ukrainian Village, Chicago
On Division St., the old Andy’s Deli location, which is about a block away from the newer Andy’s Deli location, has been for sale forever. Now it looks like someone has bought it and is finally doing something to it. I’ll go out on a limb and guess that the ground floor will be either retail or a restaurant and that upper floors will be condos or apartments.

A few days ago there was some discussion on Chicagoist about Paczki and where the best place to get the Polish pastry is. Two of the suggested bakeries are at the end of my street so I made a mental note to try them out. Paczki day isn’t until next Tuesday, fat Tuesday, the day before Lent, so I didn’t think I’d be able to try them until then but yesterday the WGN morning newscasters (who I loathe) were talking about paczki so I decided to stop in and see.. and they were there.
Alliance didn’t have that many paczki. Each one was a different flavor. I got the apple. I brought it to work making sure not to smash it, heated it up for a few seconds in the microwave, and dove in. YUM!
This weekend I want to try to get to Andy’s Deli to see how theirs compare.
