Black Friday in Chicago

On Black Friday, mom, dad, Jess, Makai and I took the Blue Line downtown. The first thing we did was look at the Macy’s holiday windows. They were cool, but I think they’re more impressive at night when they’re all lit up and the light shines out from the windows.

Jess and Makai inside Block 37.

In Block 37 we saw the movie Coco, which I loved. We ate a ton of popcorn and I had a couple glasses of wine.

Th weather was really nice, so we decided to check out the Christkindlmarket. On the way there, right on the outskirt of the market, we came across the puppet bike. Makai has seen it before, but maybe he wasn’t old enough. This time he absolutely loved it.

The Christkindlmarket was really fun but really packed. Mom and dad and I got alcoholic drinks in our mugs and Jess and Makai got hot chocolate. I LOVE the gluhwein.

At this stand I got a cool Christmas ornament where you pull a string and the toy soldier’s arms go up and down and make him do a jumping jack.

At the honey stand, I bought some German honey that is in a bear-shaped jar.

Back at Block 37 we got something to eat in the lower level, where there are several quick restaurants. My dad and I tried Dia de Los Tamales, the newest restaurant down there.

Afternoon at the Movies

Indiana Jones Ticket, River North, Chicago

Yesterday Google treated us to the new Indiana Jones movie. It was fun to go with a whole bunch of people you know and just fill up the entire theater. The new movie is just as campy as ever, with Indy’s corny lines thrown in and all the unbelievable action sequences and over the top Russian villains. We laughed a lot at parts that weren’t meant to be funny. I think it’s about equal to the previous 3 movies, but we all saw those when we were like 10*, so we didn’t realize how crazy they were. If you go see the movie, just have fun. Don’t think about inconsistencies and how certain things would never happen. This isn’t an Oscar contender, don’t expect too much, be nostalgic and go for the ride.

I was actually 6, 9, and 14 when each of the previous movies were released. That averages 10, right?

And here is Paul Baker talking to Kate after the movie:

AMC Theatres River East 21, River East, Chicago

Before last night I hadn’t seen a movie in the theater since January! I used to live a block off Houston in NYC and would go to Chelsea or the Angelica or the Film Forum or Sunshine Cinema or that theater across from ABC Carpet about once/week. But then I moved and I just haven’t been in the swing of it.

I &hearts Huckabees is somewhat confusing but still very funny. You should see it.
