Weirdest Thing Tonight

October 2nd, 2002 · Comments Off

I was on line for the check out at Dean & Deluca when I bump into Tiffany, who I haven’t seen since just after Chuck‘s last day at work. We chatted a little and exchanged email addresses and then we were both checking out when I was tapped on the shoulder. I turned around and Hiromi was standing there. Hiromi and her husband, Allen, both work where i do (sort of). This probably doesn’t seem like such a strange thing to you, but I often feel like I could go anywhere in the city and not see a soul that I know, so for me to bump into TWO people that I know in a place I don’t frequent regularly and that isn’t right near work or home, is weird to me.

Unexpectedly today, a group of

September 24th, 2002 · Comments Off

Unexpectedly today, a group of TMP employees, myself included, were asked to be extras in a NASDAQ commercial they were shooting in our office. TMP is one of the companies featured in the commercial.

Our lobby full of equipment and crew. The round, free-standing conference room with translucent walls is shrouded in plastic and illuminated with high-power lighting. Inside, our CEO, Andy McKelvey, is being interviewed while a camera on a round track does 360s. Me and the other extras walk around and around the conference room. Our silhouettes are seen through the walls and it gives the appearance of a busy office.

Allen and I break after the first take. After the second take, Allen, the only extra with any acting experience, is cut because we have too many people.

Half of our office space and hallways are taped off like this and filled with equipment and people. Here’s Andy talking to a crew member. All total, we probably spent 1 1/2 hours walking in a circle under plastic tarps with 1 million wat bulbs shining down on us. I felt like an idiot. It was tiring and hot! I heard one extra joke that this was her new exercise regimen.. and all that she needed to stick to it was a full camera crew!

At the end, as I was chowing down on the crew’s catered-in food, Andy walked up to me and said, “Did you walk around in circles?” and I said “yes.” He said, “Thank you, good job!” I hope he remembers my admirable circle-walking skills when it comes time for raises! Ha!

Bubby’s is Hard to Resist

June 28th, 2002 · Comments Off

Rachelle: “I want to get something light for lunch, since I had a muffin and a Krispy Kreme doughnut for breakfast. Oh, and cheap (like less than $5)”
Jeannette: “Let’s go to Bubby’s!”
Rachelle & Allen: “OK!”

Bubby’s is a favorite, but it’s neither light nor cheap. We had $11 pulled pork sandwiches.. but man, they were good! The chef comes up to our table and asks Jeannette how she likes the vinegar based barbecue sauce. She says she doesn’t like it so much.. that it’s runny and gets all over her hands. The chef looks hurt even though he promises we could never hurt his feelings.

Dogsitting in The Village

June 3rd, 2002 · 1 Comment

This weekend was my weekend with Henry. Henry’s family was out of town so I stayed with him and kept him company. Saturday we spent almost the entire day outside walking and playing in the park. Later on we watched movies and ordered in Japanese food.

Sunday was a lazy morning. We found it hard to get motivated to do anything, so we layed around and played a lot. Finally we took a walk to take care of some business then I was off to work to scan some photos. I told Henry I’d be back shortly… and I would have been had I not discovered that our office was broken into, drawers crowbarred, laptops stolen. That took up most of the afternoon. Finally, I was allowed to leave. I brought Jessica with me and we all went to the park. We even saw Allen and Hiromi there. Henry was making all kinds of new friends! Sunday night I had plans, so Henry and I rushed home and said a quick goodbye. It made me sad to leave him there! He’s an unbelievably great guy! I miss you, Henry!

Oh, and speaking of my plans Sunday night – I went to a movie. We were sitting in the theater before anything started and I decided to take the opportunity to use the restroom. On the way back in the theater I was walking up the stairs to where we were sitting and I totally lost it and tripped. Flat out on my face. My date said he didn’t see me – I’m not sure if he’s telling the truth or lying to save my feelings. Either way, I was very embarassed!
