I noticed in the last couple months that some of the BigBelly Solar trash compactors around The Loop are being replaced with regular, traditional trash cans. I do not mind this at all. Nevermind that they left some dangerous screws in the ground (that I tripped on).
FYI, these were removed for the NATO conference. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-04-06/news/chi-solar-trash-cans-yanked-for-nato-meeting-20120406_1_bigbelly-trash-cans-solar-trash
I read your post with great interest. You were right on about the screws. Ridiculous! They are bolts used to secure a mounting bracket, upon which the compactor sits. Why they were left like that is something I am going to find out. I am an attorney representing a woman who also tripped, and broke her arm and is suffering permanent disability as a result. We are in the early stages of the suit against the City and would appreciate your input on what you have observed. Please contact me at 847-292-9990 or alex@parkridgelawyer.net. Thanks, Alex
I forgot to add oOf course the City is denying any responsibility for that condition and also are saying that it was “open and obvious,” meaning only an idiot would not see it and trip, and that it is your own fault; as opposed to a bunch of bolts sticking up from a sidewalk which no one would expect to be there….
