When we were in San Francisco, I visited Blue Bottle Coffee. There’s so much hype about Blue Bottle Coffee and I wanted to check the beans out myself so I picked up two bags of whole coffee beans. One was called Giant Steps (organic coffee blend that is quite dark and chocolaty) and the other was Three Africans (a blend of Ugandan and two different Ethiopian coffees that has a chocolaty aroma and has hints of blueberries and cardamom). Both of these were really great. I want to get a french press so I can appreciate nice coffee like this more!
Big shocker lately is that if I have a cup of really great coffee and it’s brewed right, I don’t use milk or sugar! Do not let my staged creamer trick you. I really did not have any!
I bought a Blue Bottle Bonmac ceramic dripper at their Williamsburg shop when I was there last fall, and I love it. I think it tastes even better than french press, and it’s much easier to clean up.
I was wondering about those. Does it take FOREVER to make a cup of coffee?
It kind of depends. If you use a regular kettle or electric kettle and just pour the water over the grinds and don’t stir it, it drips pretty quickly. And it’s strong enough for me.
But some people recommend stirring to increase the brew time, or using one of those pricy Hario kettles to control the water flow and pressure. I haven’t gotten that serious about it.
I got a Bodum iced coffee press and it is wonderful- I used it every day last summer (you can also use it as a hot coffee press too.)
That sounds so delicious to me right now! Is this the one you have? http://www.amazon.com/Bodum-French-Press-Coffeemaker-51-Ounce/dp/B003NG922U/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1327449742&sr=1-1#productPromotions I wonder why they’re so big.
yes! I love it. you could use any coffee press technically, but this one is better because you need to brew it in the fridge for a day before you press the plunger down- so there is a handy flat lid for that part. also, after you press it, that lid creates a good seal so you can store the coffee for a few days. (one pot stays good for about 3-4 days!)
