Last week Jess and I went to Mr. Skin‘s 8th Annual Summer Soiree (note that link is NSFW!). Jess’s friend Keara is a copywriter there and invited us to the event. We were not sure what to expect and it was definately interesting.

First off, I never even realized that the Mr. Skin headquarters (“Skin Central”) is right in Bucktown. On Damen above the Potbelly’s. The party was an all-night (6 p.m. – at least 1 a.m.) open bar with about 4 different bars on 3 levels of outdoor patios, as well as the Mr. Skin office space. Catering was done by local Bucktown restaurants.

There was a DJ playing music all night on the rooftop and a projector showing Mr. Skin productions all night. Endless Top 5 lists in many specific categories. In one room there were a bunch of people playing Rock Band. In another, a.. um… dancer. User your imagination. Also a bunch of girls, I think they were hired(?), were getting their bodies painted. Kind of interesting, but I know I’m getting old when my first though is “oh, those girls are going to be cold when the sun goes down!”

The crowd was really very mixed. The people that work at Mr. Skin and their friends all seem to be pretty normal. People like us. Then there were the perverted old guys. “Hey girls! Want to get lei’d?” There were leis hanging on the wall. Jess and I declined. And then there were the all decked out trendy people.
