Local author, Charlene Wexler, sent me this book to read. It’s about Chicago’s Skid Row (Madison, west of downtown) in the 1960s. Dr. Mel Greenberg is fresh out of dental school and sets up shop in Skid Row where he meets his neighbors – hustlers, winos, addicts and bums. The book is based on a true story. I liked the way the book too you back to a forgotten time and place. West of the loop is quite trendy now, definitely not Skid Row!
