SS Eastland

July 24th, 2010 · No Comments

I walk over the LaSalle Street bridge every single day and a while back I noticed this on the sidewalk nearby. The S.S. Eastland was a passenger ship that rolled over on the Chicago River between LaSalle and Clark. A total of 844 passengers and crew were killed. It is the largest loss of life from a single shipwreck on the Great Lakes.

I saw this chalk drawing many months ago but have waiting to post it until today, the 95th anniversary of the shipwreck.
