On the corner of Milwaukee and California is Max Gerber’s showroom. This building has been closed and empty since we moved to Logan Square a little over a year ago. From what I can tell from random bits of information online, it seems to have closed in late spring or early summer of 2008. So just before we moved in. This space is big enough, I’d love to see a supermarket go in. Logan Square is desperately lacking as far as groceries go. The closest supermarkets are not walkable. I think if one went in here it would really do the neighborhood well.
A development proposal by the property owner did include a proposed grocery store with condos or apts. above, though I’m not sure if it was at this site or another Milw. Ave. property he owns.
That would be a geat place for a grocery store.
i used to work there for 12 years it did close down early 2008
A developer wanted to build here and include a grocery store on the property but I heard the alderman wanted $50,000 cash to ram it through City Council but the developer said no way.
