Palmer Square, Chicago

When my gym closed in September I took to exercising at Palmer Square, a park just around the corner from my house. There’s a track around the park that is roughly a half mile and I started walking around it 5 or 6 times every night to get in 2-3 miles of exercise. Palmer Square is a great park that’s always filled with people exercising, relaxing, walking their dogs, playing on the playground, picnicking or what have you. Exercising there made me feel like I was part of a new community, since I’d see the same people all the time. I enjoyed going, but now that the weather has made a turn for the cold, I need to find another exercise plan.

The Man of My Dreams by Curtis Sittenfeld

In 2006 I read Curtis Sittenfeld’s first book Prep and loved it. I liked her second book, The Man of my Dreams, but definitely not as much as Prep. The Man of My Dreams follows Hannah from the age of about 14 – 28, as she grows up with a dysfunctional family and yearns for love. Hannah can be a bit dysfunctional herself – brutally honest and bitter on life – but I could relate with her. Especially the parts where she shows her social awkwardness.

One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell

I was a huge fan of the TV series Sex and the City, which was based off a book by the same name that was written by Candace Bushnell. Even though the show was on years ago and I loved it, I never read any of Bushnell’s novels before now. One Fifth Avenue is about the residents who live at the address that is the book’s title. It was an easy, end of day, fun read. Like Sex and the City it contained large doses of sex, drugs, gossip, backstabbing, murder, society and New York City.

Sony MDR-EX56LP High Performance Earbuds

October 6th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Sony_MDR-EX56LPI’ve been using Apple in-ear earbud headphone almost daily for years. I’ve been mostly happy. The current pair I was using was getting a little worse for the wear and when it snagged on something when I was walking, the connector piece that plugs in broke even more and they were done for good.

I was exercising in the park and didn’t have any headphones to wear so I pulled out the ones that came with my iPhone and used those. Bad idea. They’re hard plastic and hurt my ears within the first few minutes of wearing them.

I was going to go up to the Apple store and get new headphones on Monday, but then I remembered that Dallas had a pair of Sony’s he really liked. I asked him where he got them and he said Radio Shack. Radio Shack? They still exist? I headed over and got these Sony MDR-EX56LP High Performance Earbuds and you know what? They’re awesome. I’m no audiophile, but they sound good to me and are so comfortable. I can’t even tell anything is in my ear. More comfortable than the Apple earbuds, I think. I’m happy with this purchase and hope it lasts a while!
