Made It Through The Night

September 18th, 2009 · No Comments

This morning I was happy to see that the pumpkins (ok, gourds) that I put out on the front stoop made it through the night without some idiots taking them and either straight-up smashing them or using them to throw grenades at an idiot friend.

This post was a test. The photo was taken on my iPhone and the post was written using the WordPress app on the phone.

Crissy and Todd were visiting from Honolulu a couple months ago. We met up at Heaven on Seven for dinner. There were many varieties of hot sauces at our table with the word “Ass” in them.

Logan Square Garbage Fires

Some idiots keep lighting garbage bins on fire in the alleys of Logan Square. Then guess what happens? Buildings start on fire. Imagine that.

It makes me feel a little better that our garage is brick, but I know that a brick garage can can still contain quite a fire. When we lived in Roscoe Village the brick garage across the alley from us caught on fire, burning everything inside, damaging our back stairs and melting the siding off of our house. These photos were taken in our alley. A little too close to home.

Renegade Craft Fair

September 14th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Jess and Emily and I walked from Logan Square down to Wicker Park to check out the Renegade Craft Fair. If you’ve never been, this is not your grandma’s craft fair. It’s cool and hip and everything is hand made. I’d call all these guys artists, not crafters. There are over 300 different vendors selling everything from clothing to baby items to jewelry to paintings. Tons of stuff.

I ended up getting a necklace by Lauren Wimmer that was made with hand-dyed silk. I also got a replacement typewriter key pendent (“R”) from The Weekend Store because I bought one at Renegade a few years ago and lost it somehow. I used to wear it all the time! At that same stand, Emily was looking at these Time Flies necklaces and they were just so cool, I had to get one myself. So, 3 necklaces! I also got something from Kersplash, but I can’t say what because I think it’s going to be a Christmas gift for someone!

One of the most unique items we saw for sale were Junk Drawers, handmade men’s underwear! We talked with the lady that makes them about how she gets new material that’s headed for the landfill to make them and how she went through designing them using her husband as her guinea pig. Fun idea.
