Tastes like candy! That’s how I’d sum up this book. My 12-year-old niece was reading the series over the summer when she visited us. Dallas’ sister was reading it when she was visiting over Labor Day weekend. And then everyone you knew was reading it and they made a movie. The reading is easy (it’s for tweens, I think) and there are a lot of cliff-hanging chapters. It’s a vampire love story. It takes place in Forks, WA, a place I visited with Kelly and Jeff. What more to say? I whipped through it at lightening pace and will hopefully be getting the next book in the series from my niece if she can part with it. She’s on the 3rd book already.
I heard it was painful to get through: molasses style. I haven’t read any myself though, but I think I’ll stick to Joss Whedon for my vampire fix.
***POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT***
I’m reading the first book right now… probably about 75% of the way through. Although I find myself as obsessed as the next person with Edward I find the relationship between him and Bella to be completely unbelievable. They fall in love far too quickly and easily. It goes from them not talking to talking about being together forever and saying I love you in the blink of an eye. Even in books and movies that doesn’t happen. Also, the idea that vampires could be real seems to come far too naturally to Bella – I would have expected her to have more disbelief about the whole thing. The book could have remained a light, teen-centered read without sacrificing proper plot development.
I differ from the other comments. I LOVED the books. It was like an obsessive read–i HAD to read all 4 books in like, less than a week. I LOVE Edward and Bellas story. I don’t analyze it, i just read it and love it. Its a book where you can’t think about it, just sit back and enjoy the ride…LOL. You will love the series. My sister read them and told me about them, I read them, Nichol read them and Nan read them. Such a good read!!!!
Stacy is right that these books are probably only good if you just read them and not think about it too deeply. That said, I do agree with Jordan on his analysis. It’s a bit irritating that Bella “just goes with it” so much. There was the “I might kill you, does that freak you out?” moment a bit too much bc every time she says “no.” Also, a few times I thought I was going to shut the book and never open it again if I had to hear one more description of how gorgeous Edward is. He’s beautiful. We got it. Then I had to remind myself that this was written for gushing teenagers and maybe from that point of view it’s not as irritating.
exactly…in real life it would be creepy having someone sneak in your room and watch you sleep. But, its just a book, not for analzying just reading haha..LOL
I’m almost done with book #4. I’m with ya. My cousin read them, then my mom, and now I’ve been hooked. Some I’ve read over a day or two and these last two books I’ve been trying to stretch out over a week. They’re addicting!
To the comments above… when you get to the last book you’ll see how Bella’s “ability to adjust to things” defines who she is.
Nuf said.
Enjoy Shell!
I read it and while I was entertained in parts, I didn’t really care for it. Might I suggest Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles? It is similar to Twilight (written for teens), but is more believable and less irritating. If you go to her site, you can see a rap video promoting the book – http://www.simoneelkeles.com
i’ll have to look into the book by simone elkeles. maybe a good gift for my niece. thanks!
You’re welcome (although you might want to read it first – it gets a bit steamy)!
