Update: Comments have been closed and the contest has ended as of 5 p.m. CST December 5, 2008. I will contact the winner soon. Thanks everyone for entering the contest.
A couple weeks ago Nintendo held a Wii Fit party at my house for me and 10 of my friends. We were introduced to Wii and Wii Fit and got to play while we indulged on delicious drinks and food. We made Miis, which was nerve wracking for some because you get your BMI measured and you get a Wii Fit age. My Mii looked a bit stout, but my Wii Fit age was only 35, which I didn’t think was bad since I’m 33 now. Even though my age seemed good, these games were kicking my ass.. especially the balancing ones. Apparently, I have no sense of balance, especially after 2 glasses of sangria.
The Wii Fit games are split into different categories. There are strength-training, aerobics, yoga, and balancing games. At first you only have 5 games available to you, but as you play them and advance on more games are unlocked. Eventually you have something like 30 different games to play. The games are fun and it is cool that the Wii Fit balance board also has a scale so you can tell if the program is actually working. Some games you sit, some you stand on the board in different positions, some you don’t use the board at all. In one running game Caroline put the Wii controller in her pocket and ran all over the house,
even downstairs, and it kept track of it all. After a while you could definitely feel muscle groups getting sore, so I think if you kept it up on a regular basis you’d definitely tone up.
The surprise at the end of the night was when each of my friends were presented with free Wii Fit games, balance boards, yoga mats, yoga pants and yoga jackets. It was like an Oprah moment! Rachelle’s favorite things! In addition, I also got a Wii. Awesome, I know, but I bet you’re wondering why you care. The reason is that Nintendo agreed, as part of this promotion, to let me give away a Wii and Wii fit system to one of my readers.
I’m going to leave comments open on this post until 12/05/08 at 5:00 p.m. (CST). You should leave a comment as many times as you want and should comment about Wii Fit and how you would incorporate it into your life. After I close the comments I will use a random number generator to determine the winner.
By commenting on this post you agree to the terms and rules of this give-away (read them here). If you are selected as the winner, you consent to letting me use your name to announce the winner. Comments that are anonymous or do not include a valid email address will be disqualified.
Comment away!!

Wow. I’ve always wanted a Wii. Pick me, Pick me!
Anyway, my wife and I recently had twins (in addition to our 4 year old). It’s increasingly harder and harder to get to the gym. My wife has taken to giving up her lunch hour to work out.
Having a Wii and Wii Fit would give her (and me) the incentive to work out at home as much as we are able too. Plus, it might get her into video games, which I’ve been trying to do for years.
P.S. Rachelle, found you from Chicagoist. Love your blog.

Because my new Animal Crossing addiction just isn’t enough, I think I should definitely take the leap and completely “wii-ify” my whole life.
3 James // Dec 1, 2008 at 9:38 am
My doctor told me to get some exercise.
I’m trying to find a way to convince my wife to let a video game console into my house.
Two birds with one stone!

WOULD LOVE TO HAVE!!!
MY WORK OUT DAYS ARE BORING AND NEED SOMETHING TO INTEREST ME THIS LONG SNOWY WINTER HERE IN MAINE
5 sarah madia // Dec 1, 2008 at 9:44 am
Hey Rachelle! This is Sarah from back in the day. I had to be the first to comment. I love the wii so much! I’m a nerd to the core.
I had a wii on lone for several months from my brother who was going to leave it at my house indefinitely. He waited until I went to portland on vacation and use the garage code to get into my house and reclaim the wii. arghh…. by then I had already bought guitar hero and was looking to get a wii fit. Yes, I am a guitar hero!
So this giveaway is fabulous! I could get my workout and gaming fix at once.
Hope you are doing great! Sarah

I love Wii. At the party, I discovered just how fit the Wii Fit can get you. As you know, I now live in Pilsen, aka, the great south, where things like gyms are in short supply. And now that I work at home, I often spend the entire day cooped up, so a Wii Fit could be very helpful in ensuring I don’t become enormous this winter.

I would love to win a Wii to complete my Oprah moment!

9 Meg // Dec 1, 2008 at 10:24 am
I’ve played Wii Fit on my sister’s Wii before– like you, my balance is atrocious! If nothing else the laughs I had while failing some of the tests were sure to have some health benefit!
This giveaway is so neat!

I would love a Wii
So much I wrote this haiku
This is the last line

I would use a Wii Fit to completely drive my downstairs neighbor crazy!
13 Sarah Meharg // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:01 am
I think my downstairs neighbor would hear me and demand i let her play the wii! but we all learned sharing is good…
14 Jon // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:03 am
My mom really want’s a wii fit!
15 Sean // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:04 am
I’d give it to the wife, not because she is not fit, but because she asked for one.
16 Kimberly // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:15 am
I love playing the Wii - and the Wii Fit is everything I’ve ever wanted in a video game. Can you imagine my delight when I can do yoga in my own living room and know that I’m doing it correctly?
The new year is soon and this little baby will surely help me start out with a BANG on the those fitness resolutions!
17 Richard // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:24 am
From the official rules (yes, I actually read them): “Immediate family members… are not eligible.”
D’oh!
Kind of funny how everyone is stating their case for the Wii and you said that you’re just going to pick the winner randomly.
18 alden // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:29 am
i think you should stop this silly contest and just give it to me already. you can drop it off whenever. thanks!

I could use something to shed the ‘post-wedding 15′ that I’ve packed on since Sept.

i would use it to get my blood flowing every morning before i take to the web and post on Chicago’s favorite blog, the same blog Rachelle B helped start. I have to carry the torch!

I want a Wii Fit because the last week, I walked up theater stairs to find my seat. Behind me was a 90 year old man who was just as out of breath as I was. Sad sad sad.

26 Caroline // Dec 1, 2008 at 1:15 pm
So, I live directly across the street from work. And it gets dark so fast I never really walk anywhere any more. Maybe Wii Fit would keep me from becoming a TLC obese person television show!
You’ll be seeing more comments from me, don’t worry.
27 Caroline // Dec 1, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Hey Random Number Generator,
I know a really sexy Random Letter Generator that would really like to get to know you better. You pick one of my comments and I’ll totally hook you up.

I would love to win a wii - and if it could motivate me a little to get off my rear and have some fun - then I am all for it.

wiiiiiiiii! I just played some wii tennis yesterday, it was fun!

I’ve been looking to buy a Wii Fit for myself and my fiance for a while. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Looking to bring my Wii age down to a respectable level.
31 Richard K. Liu // Dec 1, 2008 at 1:55 pm
I’ve had fun playing with the Wii in the past and the FIT is fun as well. Maybe it’s just me, but when the system gives a little “oh!” when I get on the fit, I find it…. “motivating”.
32 Krusty // Dec 1, 2008 at 2:11 pm
My children are slovenly and prone to long stretches of inertia dangerously coupled with excessive Dolly Madison product consumption. Please save them from their own 700 lb. man reality show!!! Save us Wii!!!
… and you know that we’re unable to stop having more children and as a result couldn’t possibly afford to buy our own.
33 Kiley // Dec 1, 2008 at 2:29 pm
I would love to win a wii - I believe it would be better than sitting, playing ps2.
34 Kiley // Dec 1, 2008 at 2:32 pm
I would also like to win something in my life - I have no luck. It would be lucky to win something that could add years to my life.

I think it would be interesting to use it in conjunction with a gym because of its status tracking abilities.
39 Korby // Dec 1, 2008 at 2:55 pm
WOW! A free Wii would be excellent!
40 Laura Castetter // Dec 1, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Oh, pick me. I actually think I would give it to my mother. She’s been sick for a long time and gained a lot of weight. So exercise would be great for her but she is embarrased and wouldnt’ go to a gym. So I think this would be a wonderful gift for her.

if i won the wii, i would never leave the house again. i would promise to take this wii as my lawfully wiied wii. it would be me and wii, in wiickness and in health, till wii do us wii. or something like that.
48 Steve Ruggiero // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:03 pm
If I only had a Wii, a Wii, a Wiiiii (daydream starts here)….
Hey, I can incorporate a WII system into my life by having my wife and I take turns competing against our 3 kids (ages 10,8, and 6). That would assist in satisfying the boys desire to play video games as well as give them even more exercise than they already get in their active lives. The bonus is a family time event that is also exercise for everyone.
The weather outside is frightful, but a Wii is so delightful. Santa, please grant me a Wii system.
49 Chris M. // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:04 pm
I just know the Wii could change my life. I look forward to winning it.
50 David Bratton // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:05 pm

51 Raul Perez // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Does Dallas carress all his gifts that way or does the Wii hold a special place in his heart?
52 David Bratton // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Hello Rachelle,
Me again. I adopted to orphans a few months ago (Nicholas and Alexandra) we are to poor to afford a WII, can we please win?

Yo, I need to win this. I have to boys, 6 and 3. They’re sick of playing with rocks, sticks and dirt from our backyard. Their Dad (Me) is too cheap to buy them a WII. Please pick my comment number. hahahaa…
54 David Bratton // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Hello Rachelle,

actually, we would probably create a new gym at work so that everyone could use the Wii.
60 kelly // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:14 pm

61 Connie // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:17 pm
I can’t go to the gym to work out because I am a single mom to a toddler and I work full time. This could sure help me get through times of stress when I can’t just go outside and get in a quick run like I could back in the pre-baby days. Thanks!
62 EricaJoy // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:18 pm
I’ve heard the Wii Fit might tell me things I don’t want to hear in very cheery tones. However, that won’t stop me from leaving a comment in hopes that I get one.

66 Robert // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Would love to have Wii Fit. After borrowing a Wii from some friends of ours, my wife and I found ourselves up all night playing Wii Sports. The best part was waking up to scattered furniture and sore arms from the intense battles we endured. If we could get the heart rate up like this from tennis and bowling, I would love to see what we could accomplish with Wii Fit!
67 Caryn Bailey // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:29 pm
I would love to win a Wii…I’ve had such a hard time getting to the gym to get rid of the excess baby weight and I think it would give me great motivation to actually have a way to exercise in my house with my son there.
68 Katie C. // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:34 pm
I need a Wii! I am a teacher who wants to be “hip” and in the know with her students. Help me talk the Wii language with my class and stay fit at the same time!
69 smussyolay // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:36 pm
first post (we can have more than one, right?) — i played ‘tennis’ for the first time this summer and it was AWESOME. in a good/bad way. it was really fun, but i have to say that i KNEW i was going to be sore the next day. and i was. that’s lame to be sore from a video game, but so be it!
70 smussyolay // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:37 pm
2. i suffer from SAD and fibromyalgia. my whole life i have had one remedy for these things that i have never been able to do — exercise. this sounds like a perfect solution to my exercise ‘problem.’

3. it’s winter. nuff said.
73 janelle // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:39 pm
if i had a wii, i would move our TV so that it is aligned along the longest axis of our apartment and then i am going to wii bowl every day after work. laundry might not get done and it will probably mess up by real-life bowling game (sorry tien!) but hey.
74 smussyolay // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:40 pm
4. i just got reprimanded by a website. (you are posting comments too quickly. slow down.) don’t hurt my feelings, wordpress.
anyway, 4. i love to host parties and this would make a welcome addition to my hospitality filled home.
75 smussyolay // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:40 pm
5. exercising sucks. unless i can trick myself into having it be a competitive thing. then, nothing can slow me down. NOTHING, i say!

and lastly …. i need/want to lose about 40 pounds. please help me help myself.
YAY WII!

78 Amy Robertson // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Hi Rachelle,
I already have a Wii, but would LOVE a Wii Fit - they are so hard to find !! I would donate the Wii to a less fortunate soul who doesn’t yet own one.
P.S. My mother’s maiden name is Bowden if that means anything ! :0)
79 Colleen // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:43 pm
Thanks for the chance to win, Rachelle! I would love a Wii and Wii Fit and would try not to hurt myself using it in my small apartment (or anger the downstairs neighbors). I think it would be a great way to get some exercise when I’m not motivated to take the T to the gym.
80 Steven Ehrlich // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:47 pm
OK, this is cool, but seriously scary. Not sure if I want to know my Wii fit age. I am probably 104.
81 Kari // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:49 pm
Think it could get my butt in shape for hiking in New Zealand by Christmas!?
Despite the gym being 3 blocks away a Wii fit in the living room would mean I don’t have to put snow boots on!
Hope you had a happy Tday! Ps. love your blog photos! I checked them out a few weeks ago.
82 neil // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:49 pm
while my wife would argue that we don’t need another “gadget” the truth is that she knows this is so much more.
with two kids and one income, we can’t afford a gym yet alone have enough time to goto one.
plus with the winter months upon us - little Jonas needs someway to get his exercise!
83 Keithia Kirkaldy // Dec 1, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Oh wow!!! That is soooo amazing. I would love to have a Wii!!!!! We have 2 children and that would be awesome for all of us. I would so use the wii fit. need to loose 30-50 pounds…doctor’s orders and even though I’ve been working out by walking outside, can’t always get there if I don’t have someone to watch the kids…Pick me Pick me, We would so put it to good use. I would love a chance at getting my own Wii and Wii Fit! I have thus far remained under the Wii Radar…. But, funny enough, after getting addicted to Wii Bowling at my local pub I have been thinking how nice it would be to have my own. I would use a Wii Fit to do a daily workout routine and of course I would also play other sports on the Wii!
Maybe I will get lucky.

Our nearest gym is 17 miles away from my house one way. I would use this to incorporate exercise into my daily routine as I need to lose weight for my health. Thanks for the chance.

This is the kind of exercise I could do and enjoy

I would love to use the Wii fit with my kids to get some exercise. They already think it’s funny that I get so physical with the sports games.

As a busy grad student who gains weight with stress, this is a great way to get out of the gym + fit in fun & stimulating exercise throughout the day!

The Wii fit would let me exercise this winter when it is bad outside.

Anything that will keep my husband motivated to stay in shape, I figure a video game would do it. Plus it is something we can do together.

I would love to win this wii and wii fit, this would help me get my excercise in the winter and would be so much appreciated Thanks for the chance

Rachelle! Joe Nathan is laughing over here. Looks like you all had an awesome time. I remember when we had the Wii at FeedBurner, it was astounding. I want to bring a Wii Fit into ThoughtWorks to pick us up after the afternoon lull. Or maybe have daily standups, but the person needs to balance while playing wii fit while talking. Ridiculous…
129 Sara and Cam // Dec 1, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Pick us #124 We would love a Wii and a Wii fit!!!
130 Renee G // Dec 1, 2008 at 8:45 pm
I want a Wii fit so bad I can taste it. My sister has one and has lost 20 pounds since last Christmas. I’ve played hers a couple of times and it is so fun. However, every time I check the stores near me there are none in stock. I want to be able to practice the balance bit until I can find my inner grace (it may take a while)
131 Jordan // Dec 1, 2008 at 8:52 pm
I currently have a ps3 and always wanted a wii. The main reason i want a wii is to play tiger woods golf. Because it rains so much in seattle, i only get to play a handful of times a year. Tiger Woods on the ps3 is ok, but playing on the Wii, i will be able to practice my swing and putting mechanics like it was real life. that way, when the weather is nice, my golf game will be where i want it. golf is not a game that you can just pick up and expect to do well. practice, practice, practice.
132 Louis // Dec 1, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Wow, what an amazing turnout in the comment section. I was unaware you had so many friends.
If I won I could get in shape, and I could fit into jeans I can’t wear anymore, and I would be able to save money, and then I could donate money to a prominent research institution, who would then cure cancer, and I would do the talk show circuit to show off how I lost all that weight and cured cancer.
Rachelle, you essentially hold the keys to my fame and fortune. Don’t worry, I won’t forget you. I hereby promise a shout out on Conan when my plan comes to fruition.
133 Leann S // Dec 1, 2008 at 8:59 pm

My husband turns 40 on the 21st and it would serve the purpose of being a game (to relive his childhood) and help him get some exercise.
137 Rob // Dec 1, 2008 at 9:11 pm
If I had a Wii I’d be able to see what all the kids are up to these days. Video game-wise. I’m fairly clueless. I wonder if I could ditch my gym membership.

I would use Wii Fit in addition to my current fitness plan. I’m down about 35 lbs and I think adding something interactive yet entertaining to my plan will continue to push me to lose another 40 to get to my baby fit weight!
142 Nadine L // Dec 1, 2008 at 9:30 pm
I have been walking 4 miles a day for over a year for exercise. But with winter coming, the days I am able to walk are very limited now. A Wii Fit would keep me moving over these long winter months and be fun, therefore keeping me interested. Thanks for the chance at a great prize.
143 Daniel // Dec 1, 2008 at 9:39 pm
I would give it to my sister and brother and law for Christmas. That or I’d just play old zelda games on it. Is that wrong?
144 Sheila Fiske // Dec 1, 2008 at 9:48 pm
My kids and I would have a ball doing this together. They would have fun and I would hopefully lose weight. Thank-you!

169 oona b // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:03 pm
Living in Oregon, everyone hibernates in the wintertime. A Wii would help my family work off all the Christmas cookies and lasagna we tend to tuck into during the long, dark winter months. The neighbors could all come over and our Miis could compete. It would be good fun!
170 Lorri S // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:13 pm
I’ve seen so many commercials with the different fitness games and it looks fun. Exercising can be a real bore at times. I hate trying to find the exact time the gym is open to get there to work out! This would help tremendously and would be fun doing it
171 Angela J. // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:21 pm

174 Angela J. // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Maybe I can win if I really picture the Wii in my head!!! LOL - I need to exercise and I want it to be fun=Wii!!!
175 Patty Genova // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:25 pm
I would try to use this at least 3 times a week.
I would do this because I dont like to exercise but my doctor says I need to.
I would try and convince my husband to join me because he has high blood pressure and high cholestrol and sits at a desk all day long and I really need to get him moving. My young kids are worried for their father that he needs to get moving to improve his health.
We just played this at a relatives house on Thanksgiving and my husband and i played and we liked it very much.
We both could benefit from this greatly. Thanks for the chance!
176 Kayce C. // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:39 pm
I’d use the Wii Fit as my exercise for days I don’t go to the gym.
177 Darcy // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:39 pm
I would love this —I’m too shy to work out in a gym–and I recently moved and had too leave behind my precious exercise bike/ rower —now I live somewhere that the weather often does not allow me to exercise outside.
178 Joe // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:45 pm
I have battled thyroid cancer but with the onset of rheumatoiod arthritis and th e major other issues with my healtth it is hard to exercise ( throw in asthma , high blood pressure and much more) I have gone from 315 lbs down to as low as 175 lbs, yes that took a ton of time, i now weigh just under 200 lbs and I weill need to maintain that weight but and my knees are no longer able to help me do regular weight bearing endurance exercise, the wii fit can get my heart rate up fast and that would mean iI can get the cardio I need and still take it easier on my joints.
179 Julianne B // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:54 pm
As the mom of 8 kids (six of them biologically), I am finding it increasingly difficult to find time to exercise for the sake of my health and energy. I think Wii Fit is a way to get my entire family to jump on the exercise wagon. “Get off the Clone Wars game, it is Mommy’s turn to use the Wii…Princess Padme said so!”
180 Julie Terry // Dec 1, 2008 at 11:56 pm
The Wii fit is the only that I have asked for this Christmas. I have actually been asking for it for months now, since it first came out. I am overweight, and need a fun way to get in shape. Several people have said that they Wii fit would be perfect for me, after they tried it for themselves. I tell you those people at Nintendo are some smart cookies, they are very in tune to what people need.

I was browsing through the web looking for a contest just like this. I have two boys ages 8 and 12. we recently lost everything we own in a house fire. my sons lost a nintendo 64 in the fire and we were not able to replace it. my 8 year old has been wanting a wii but i could never afford it. winning this contest would be a very special christmas gift for him. by choosing my comment as your winner, you would bring so much joy to an 8 year old boy who has only seen bad luck and dissapointment in the last few months. thanks.
183 Karissa // Dec 2, 2008 at 12:02 am
I would incorporate this by doing Wii instead of watching bad TV, there isn’t anything on on mondays and tuesdays, and well wedensdays. I love to workout on saturdays and sundays too. I have never been able to to Yoga at home for the balance part and I think the board would be perfect to help! thanks for the chance!

224 Kelly // Dec 2, 2008 at 5:09 am
I have been wanting a Wii because of how interactive it is, then Wii Fit came out. A Wii fit would give my daughters, all three of them, and I a chance to do something good for our bodies, together. I struggle with my weight during the winter, every year. If I had a Wii fit I would use it to get in shape this winter, and stay in shape. My daughters would also use it to help them feel good all winter long. I even think I could get my husband to work out during the day since he is a video game addict. It wouldn’t seem so much like working out it if he had a Wii fit to use. I see Wii fit becoming a daily routine for all of us, a routine we would have fun incorporating into our lives.
