Back With Peapod

November 18th, 2008 · 4 Comments

We used to order Peapod a lot years ago, but when we lived in Roscoe Village barely did because we were within walking distance from Jewel, Dominic’s, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe’s. Now that we’re in Logan Square I think we’ll be using Peapod a lot again. As far as I can tell, there is no supermarket in this neighborhood, at least not within walking distance, since we don’t have a car.

I was making an order on Peapod last week and I noticed they added a new feature. You can designate different nutritional filters and it will categorize your search results for you. So, if you were allergic to gluten or lactose intolerant or on Weight Watchers you can see customized results. For a gluten allergy, it puts an icon by all items that are gluten-free. For Weight Watchers it will show point values next to every item. Kind of neat, I thought. You can also make customized nutritional plans based on any number of ingredient requirements.

Shop local! Some grocery options: Sunrise Fresh Market on Milwaukee (walk or take the el to Logan Square stop), Tony’s on Fullerton near Central Park, Armitage Produce at Armitage & Kimball.

    Welcome to the neighborhood.

Thanks, Lynn. I’ve been checking your site out since we moved. Good neighborhood resource!

We’ve been trying out some of the local markets for day-to-day needs, but none of them have anywhere near *everything*. I think we’ll get Peapod orders and fill in what we need from local shops.

    Thanks for the compliment.

I understand that no stores have everything; just wanted to make sure you were acquainted with neighborhood options, plus exploring them will likely yield stories to tell!

    Rachelle,

Not sure exactly where you are, or what you consider walking distance, but there is a full grocery store on Elston at Logan. It’s in the same shopping center as the PetSmart. Also, the Target on Elston has a fairly extensive grocery section, including organic basics like milk. Neither is my primary grocery store, but they’re good in a pinch.
