Every year some of Dallas’ family in the suburbs have an early Thanksgiving dinner because everyone disperses the the week of the holiday. This year was the first year we joined them for their celebration. We had a lot of fun and ate a ton of great food, which Danny, of course, had a big hand in making. I brought the cranberry bars I’d made earlier that day. Caroline and I got a sneak peek at Cory’s wedding dress and we also all gave Doug and Naoko a few gifts for the baby they’ll be having in a few weeks. They knew Tommy was going to be a boy, but this one is going to be a surprise. Exciting times on that side of the family.

Hi Rachelle — In the second pic (”Mitch, Brad, Chris :: Bartlett, IL), the boys look to be decorating a plate? What is that? I’m trying to get some activities lined up for the kids next week (Thanksgiving), and that looks like it might be interesting.

    Yep, they’re decorating a plate.

We were at Dallas’ Aunt Laura’s house and she has a plate displayed for every kid going back a couple generations. There are decorated plates hung for people who are married and have their own kids already and then the kids plates are hung too. For some reason Brad and his sister Ali made cups when they were little, which are hard to display with the plates, so Auntie Laura made them do a plate even though they are both 20+ now. Mitch and Chris were telling Brad what they thought he should draw (Mitch and Chris already have plates on display that they decorated.) I believe Brad’s plate ended up having a keg on it.. yet somehow it still looked like a 5-year-old drew it.

I don’t know where these plates come from. It seemed like the older ones were plastic .. or melmac (?) but these new ones were porcelain-like. Each plate comes with a set of markers to write on the plate and then you just have to let it sit for 12 hours or something to make sure it’s set.
