Taco Bell, Wrigleyville, Chicago
I noticed yesterday that the Taco Bell drive thru sign (Clark/Addison across from Wrigley Field) is wearing a Cubs hat now. Maybe I’m crazy, but I don’t remember seeing it before. Then again, I try to avert my eyes from Taco Bell when I go by it because I will have a killer craving for a bean burrito if I look at it. I don’t remember the hat when Jess and I ate there before the game a few weeks ago, but I was in pretty rough shape.
A Flickr search shows the hat there in 2005, 2006, and 2007, but this photo that Jocelyn took doesn’t have a cap in 2007.
Am I terribly unobservant? Do they take the hat off and put it on at different times? Was it only off in 2007 to update the sign?

the hat’s always been there. when they had the more old school taco bell sign (up until not so long ago), the hat was MUCH bigger. i’m thinking they had to downsize it when they got the new corporate logo sign.
i was bummed when they got the new sign and smaller hat. but the hat’s been there for the 11 years i’ve lived in chicago. YAY cubs!
man, it’s been a long time since i’ve eaten taco bell.

WOW. i just looked at those pictures (that’s what i get for not checking links … i tend to do that at chicagoist. i’m a skimmer and a non-link checker .. i didn’t even see you linked to me).
i forgot that i took that picture!!! AND … it appears the hat has always been the same sign. i swear it was bigger with the other sign. man. eyewitnesses are the worst.

what gets even crazier is that i was standing RIGHT there! i didn’t see it when i took the picture. i guess i was literally ‘blinded by the light/wrapped up like a taco in the middle of the light.’
