Welcome to the Seventh Circle of Hell

Macy’s, The Loop, Chicago

I was on a mission to get a new bathing suit and I wasn’t going to take no for an answer.

My Ralph Lauren bathing suit that I bought in New York with Jess and Julie got all bleached out from our hot tub in Hawaii last year. I guess it was getting old anyway. I bought it in 2002. Looking back I realize that I bought it in preparation for a trip to Cape Cod. Remember that for a second.

I also have a my Quicksilver Leilani suit that I love, but it was purchased in 2005 and is getting old, too. Probably that ultra-chlorinated hot tub water in Hawaii didn’t help that suit either.

Anyway, yesterday: I went to Macy’s because they have thousands of bathing suits. This is both good and bad. Good that the odds are that something has to look decent. Bad because tried on bathing suits for more than 3 hours to find that something. This photo was taken after trying on all those suits… and it was my fourth trip into the dressing room. I had to leave. Had to. I brought home 3 bikinis. I don’t know if I’ll keep them all. I almost bought one more. It had a skirt. It was really sporty and cute, but I’m not ready to take the leap to swim suits with skirts attached yet.

And why was I looking for a bathing suit anyway? Next week I’m going on vacation to Cape Cod with Jessica, Stephanie, and Julie. .. my friends from New York, not my nieces! It’s going to be a fun girls week. .. plus a few extra days. We have a rental a few minutes from the beach with every amenity that you can think of. And Jess’s sister is joining us for a couple days too. Going to be so much fun.

If you have any recommended beach reads, drop them in the comments. I plan to spend a lot of time doing nothing and reading.

Another one I thought of, “Advise and Consent” by Allen Drury, its a fiction book all about the Senate. It is an undertaking, and the payoff is worth it. If you want something to really sink your teeth into!

I need to shop for suits too – but argh – I dread the thought. I applaud you for getting bikinis. I still wear mine from last year, even though I shouldn’t with the post-baby body I still have!
