I Was Told There’d Be Cake by Sloane Crosley

An alright collection of short stories/essays. Not the greatest, not the worst. If you can pick up a free copy (want mine?), read it. The stories are about Crosley’s life growing up and as a young adult in New York City. As much as I wanted to love her and share in her experiences.. kind of .. “oh yeh! that’s the kind of crazy shit that happens when you live in New York in your 20′s”.. I don’t know.. By the end of the book I didn’t really like the author. Although I did really enjoy an experience she shared about having a unique name and all the ways people have messed it up through out her life.

I love books of short stories. Sloane actually gave a reading in Boston a little while ago. I wasn’t able to attend but I added her book to the never-ending “to pick up” pile. After reading your review though I may just skip it… or get it from the library. At least that’s free :)
