Laughing Cow at Jewel, Roscoe Village, Chicago
At my local Jewel, Laughing Cow used to be located in an unrefrigerated aisle next to all the other fake cheese - the Velveeta, the Cheez Wiz, etc. On a recent trip to the supermarket it wasn’t there. I couldn’t find it anywhere. Then I had an idea: Maybe it was by the real cheese? And there it was. In the refrigerated section that houses all the fancy cheeses. Wikipedia says that because of the pasteurization process, Laughing Cow wedges don’t have to be refrigerated. Do you think Jewel put them there just because people had trouble finding them?

no joke — last week, the laughing cow cheese man showed up at my office with tons of free cheese and crackers! It was awesome. Somehow Tails got on some list to get free samples every once in while. For a moment, it was like what working at Google must be like

Sorry, but “Laughing Cow” ( “La Vache qui rit” in french) is a fake cheese : it does not feel anything!

I believe Wikipedia says, “Laughing Cow” may be left unrefrigerated for a limited time. I am guessing that its move to the gourmet cheese section has nothing to do with people not being able to find it, and everything to do with elevating its status. It is getting to be enormously popular!
