We got Mario Kart for the Wii at work yesterday and of course we’ve been playing it like crazy at lunch and after work. Today I saw a link to this xkcd chart on Kottke. SO appropriate.

Randomness

April 30th, 2008 · No Comments

Yesterday, through a series of blog links, I discovered Estelle, a British hip-hop artist, singer and producer. I listened to a lot of her music on Hype Machine. This song she did with Kanye West called American Boys (video above) was a big hit in the UK.

While I’m not laying in bed with a 102 degree fever like I was the week before last, my cold is still lingering around. I wish it would just go away already.

I had dinner with Cinnamon and Erin last night, which was a great, relaxing time. I’ve known Erin for years, but we don’t get together enough. I’ve known of Cinnamon for years and have had quite a few online interactions with her, but this was one of the first times we hung out. I think there will be more times. We had tasty Thai food and lots and lots of girly talk that spanned from technology to careers to boys. All the good stuff.

And speaking of boys, mine is finally coming home tonight after being in Vancouver, Seattle and Calgary since a week before last Monday. Home for one night then he’s off to Puerto Rico til May 5. World traveler, he is. I miss him!

Visiting With Family

After Riley’s party we went to my parent’s house. Kelly and Jeff and Tessa came over in the afternoon to visit and for a big dinner my mom made. I hadn’t seen Tessa and Jeff since last summer. Tessa sure is cute and running around and talking like crazy. .. speaking of which… I don’t know if Jessica is finally coming out of her shy stage or if it was because Dallas wasn’t with me, but she was really excitable and talkative on this trip too. I told Jess when Dallas was done traveling I was going to give him a big hug and say it was from her and she basically ran out of the room screaming. Ha. Jess and Tessa were happy to see each other and running around and playing hard. Add in the two dogs and it was a bit of a crazy house. Kelly is 8+ months pregnant and much bigger than the last time I saw her. It’s strange to think that the next time I see them they’ll have another daughter!

It was a good visit to my parents’ house. The next morning we all had brunch then had to head back. It always goes by so fast!

On Saturday, Amanda, Stephanie, Jessica and I went to Riley’s 4th birthday party. It was in Appleton at The 10th Frame bowling alley. Our old friend Chad, who I haven’t seen since I lived in Appleton almost 10 years ago, owns the bowling alley. It’s pretty old fashioned – no electronic scoring – but is kept up well, it seems. I kind of liked the nostalgia of it.

I only see Riley and her friends and family once or twice/year and it always amazes me how much they’ve grown! There’s only really one baby now, where a couple years ago it seemed like they were all babies. I just looked at the post I made after Riley’s 3rd birthday party and I wrote that same exact thing last year. Ha. Here are her 2nd and 1st birthday photos, too.

The younger kids all had bumpers on their lanes and just took turns throwing the ball down and hitting pins. A lot of them couldn’t even throw it hard enough to knock pins over, but they all seemed to have fun anyway. In our lane Amanda, Nichol, Chris, Stephanie and I played. Luckily, Nichol knew enough about bowling to figure out how to keep a running score. We checked it later on at home and a couple of the scores were slightly off, but everyone still came in the same order. Stephanie ended up winning by a lot!
