This Mixer is MINE!

Kitchenaid MixerSince I’ve been talking about kitchen appliance upgrades, I thought it would be a good time to talk about my new stand mixer. I don’t know if you guys remember, but before Christmas my cheapie hand mixer broke. I borrowed Jen’s KitchenAid stand mixer to get some baking done, but then I gave it back and didn’t have a mixer. I was still deciding on what to tell Dallas I wanted for Christmas and decided on a new KitchenAid hand mixer.

Dallas argued that we should get a stand mixer since I’d borrowed Jen’s multiple times and I had Erin’s at my house for a while once and used it a lot. He said, “Why settle for something less than what it is you really want?” Of course my answers were that I didn’t seem deserving and that it costs a lot. In hindsight, almost a month later, I realize that not being deserving is just silly and the cost is more like an investment because I’ll never need to buy another mixer ever again in my whole entire life. I hope.

Still, we were only sort of discussing it and in the end I’d probably have settled for something less and been sort of satisfied with it but still jealous of the KitchenAid. And then there was a random trip to Costco where I wandered over to the side I never go to and saw the KitchenAid display with the stand mixer practically glowing and calling my name under the fluorescent warehouse lighting. “Let’s get it,” Dallas said. So we put it in the cart. And the whole time I was feeling a mixture of giddiness and guilt. I don’t know why, but I always think I shouldn’t have the best. Old Lutheran guilt rearing its head?

So then we got it home and set it up and adjusted the height of the mixer head and I went and sat on the couch. But I couldn’t sit! I could only be overly excited and fret and talk about it and look it up online to make sure we got the best deal… until Dallas couldn’t take it any longer and told me to stop it already! I remember that night I couldn’t sleep. I just kept thinking about how pretty it was and all the things I could make! The next day I used it to make meatloaf and potatoes and since then I’ve made a bunch of stuff with it.

I love it. It makes both cooking and baking so easy. And it’s just so beautiful. And red! It sits out on my counter proudly, even when I’m not using it. And in a way, it reminds me.. I DO deserve it!

(And secretly, I think Dallas was so encouraging about the purchase because he was sick of hefting that heavy stand mixer back and forth from Jen & Chad’s house! Seriously, they weigh like 100 pounds or something.)

My dad bought his in the 70’s and it still works perfectly. I bought one for my brother last x-mas and we’ve made some of the best burgers I’ve ever had. We’re gonna try and make some sausages this summer! Cheese curd brats anyone!?

You make me laugh! Actually not sure if it is a laugh or a quick feeling of knowing someone. You totally deserve it and I am so happy you “treated” yourself!!! You know damn well I would be standing there next to you (if you were in NYC still) saying “Come on Rachelle…get it…look it is RED…how sweet is that….just think of what you could make!…if you don’t, I will”.

…now where did you see it for a good price? I think I have some counter space ;)

I’d always wanted one of these but figured it was a wedding registry item… then one day maybe a year and a half ago, Ella and I noticed that the Chef’s Catalog store on Clark was having a going out of business sale. When we saw a KitchenAid Professional that would end up costing only $200 in silver (not lime green, pink or any color we’d tire of), we jumped on the deal! Now that we are setting up our registry, we’ll have a chance to add all the accessories…
