Stuart Dybek was in our office today reading from and talking about his book “The Coast of Chicago: Stories“. I saw him eating lunch in our cafeteria and then his presentation followed at 1 p.m. I had another meeting at that time, so I couldn’t attend (wah!) but I still got a copy of the book (yay!).
Also, since I was ordering from Overstock anyway, I added on about 5 books that I’ve been meaning to read. Now I’m so overwhelmed by good unread books in the house that I don’t even know where to start! Plus, I was already reading a book when they arrived, but I was kind of “meh” about it. So I might jump on a few books I’ve been wanting to read and then go back to “meh” if I feel like it later.
First up? “Thunderstruck” by Erik Larson. I’m really hoping this is a great book because I was so in love with Larson’s other book “The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America
.”

The Devil in the White City is a great book. The best part is the detailed descriptions of Chicago and environs and being able to track down the locations, see them for yourself, and developing a new appreciation for this great city.
