Excited About Coffee Again

Krups Cafe Express Coffee MakerJess got me a small Krups coffee maker for my 28th birthday going on 5 years ago. It was the first coffee maker I ever owned. The size of the machine was perfect for my tiny New York apartment and the maximum that it could brew was 4 cups of coffee at a time, which suited me fine since I never really drank more than a cup or two in the morning. That little coffee maker has served me well over the years.

Lately, though, the coffee has not really been tasting great no matter how I cleaned the coffee maker and filter and base. And no matter which coffee I used in it. Also, when I have people Lion Toasted Coconut Coffeeover who drink coffee I often have to make multiple batches of coffee so Cuisinart Grind & Brew Coffee Makerthat there is enough to go around.

So, I decided to take Erin‘s recommendation and I got this Grind & Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker. It grinds! And brews! Up to 12 cups! And is programmable! Erin recently got this coffeemaker and was bragging about how great her coffee is tasting now.. and the best part is that Overstock has it for 40% off the retail price. Done!

As for coffee, my favorite lately has been Lion Coffee’s Toasted Coconut flavored whole bean coffee. I just got a shipment from Lion in last week and I just got my new coffee maker delivered today. I set it up and brewed a few cups and I can’t even describe the difference.

Now, what to do with that coffee bean grinder I bought a few years ago…

  1. I told you that Hawaiian was the way to go! 🙂

Also, I think if you program the coffee maker that you should pregrind the beans… that grinder going off in the kitchen at 6:20 a.m. will scare the crap out of you!

  2. You can use your old coffee grinder to grind up fresh herbs. My sister has 2 grinders–one for coffee and one for grinding fresh herbs and spices……

You are making me thirsty for a good cup of coffee!

  3. what’s the cleanup like? Ella had a grind and brew that we used when she first moved in… But the steam getting into the grinder made the grounds stick, and it was in general a pain to clean all the parts every day. After a week, I went back to my normal coffee maker. Ella asked if I wanted to give another grind and brew a try when we were registering for our wedding recently…

  5. The coffee maker has a million parts so sometimes I feel as though all I am doing is cleaning it. But it’s not like stuff is sticking to the grinder – just run it under water and all the remains go down the drain. At first I wanted to go back to the old days of using the Krups coffee thingy, but I totally love not having to buy filters and being able to hit start and just walk away until the coffee is done. I guess I just got used to it and no longer fear the change. Ha.

  6. I love my grind and brew, but it is very noisy and has a lot of parts. Too much to remember. You have to assemble all the pieces and still remember to turn off the grinder before brewing. I never remember and wake up the entire household (ok, the cat).
