This past summer I rode on the lakeshore bike path a lot. One day I noticed a small path leading off and I rode down it and into Olive Park. I’d never noticed it before but liked it quite a lot. It is kind of out on a peninsula and you can look out over the lake and back at the city. I liked the view, but the park itself is small and quaint and quiet and I can’t wait to go back and spend more time there in the spring.
Online I found out that the park is named after Milton L. Olive III who fought with the army in the Vietnam War. Olive was killed when he jumped on a live grenade to save some other soldiers. He was the first African American Medal of Honor recipient of the Vietnam War.
