Cubs Win the NL Central Title

Killian
Killian, Mac’s, Ukrainian Village, Chicago

On Friday night we all went to Mac’s to help celebrate Liz’s last day “working for the man.” Liz has grown her clientèle so much that she now is able to work as a therapist, full-time, on her own. Quite an accomplishment. Liz’s specialties are kids and adolescents, eating disorders and substance abuse. If you’re needing any help, check her out at SuranCounseling.com.

Also on Friday, the Cubs played Cincinnati and won. Milwaukee played San Diego and lost. Which means that the Cubs clinched the NL Central title. I think this might have been the happiest day in Killian’s life, including the day he met or proposed to Liz. Kidding, but he and his brother Malachy and pretty much everyone in the bar was freaking out. It was pandemonium for a bit there. Crazy.

Finally, John and Susan were in town and met up with us at Mac’s. I was able to meet up with Susan on one of my business trips to California, but I hadn’t seen John since they moved to San Francisco, so it was nice to spend time with them.

Sam’s Red Hots

Sam’s Red Hots
Sam’s Red Hots, Bucktown, Chicago

Last night I was walking on Armitage to meet up with the Chicagoist staff for happy hour at Cleo’s. I passed Sam’s Red Hots and liked how it looked in the sun. I love the mild temperatures, intense sun and long shadows of autumn. My favorite time of the year.

Our happy hour was really fun. I got to meet some people on staff who I’d actually never met in person before. Everyone drank entirely too much and I picked up the check, so it was a great time. FYI, Cleo’s has half price ($3.99) 12″ pizzas on Thursday nights, which makes the pizza cheaper than a lot of the beers they have. And they’re not like grody frozen pizzas, we’re talking about bacon & blue cheese, barbecue chicken, margarita, etc.

Brett Favre is the all-time winningest QB in NFL history

September 26th, 2007 · 8 Comments

Brett Favre is the all-time winningest QB in NFL historyDon’t know why I didn’t bring this up earlier. Like, on Sunday. I admit that I wanted Brett Favre to retire years ago and the past few years the Packers haven’t looked great. But with Brett performing this year and the Packers at 3-0 for the season so far, it’s hard not to be excited! (Knocking on tons of wood right now.) Holding records like second all-time in career interceptions thrown by a quarterback isn’t so hot, but a bunch of these other records and milestones are pretty exciting. Call me fair-weather, but I’m kind of glad to still have Favre around. I hope that after he retires as quarterback (at the end of this year??) he stays around and becomes a QB coach or something.
