This week we moved into the Google Chicago office. They had to build out some new space both for us and because they were growing so rapidly. So we’re located on a brand new floor. Today there was a ribbon cutting ceremony and media event. I don’t know exactly what happened except that there were a lot of office tours that went by. Everyone also got these Google Chicago shirts. Well, not this one exactly. Unlike New York and Mountain View where there are tons of employees in the engineering group, the office in Chicago is mostly all sales and business types. Before FeedBurner showed up there were only a few engineers. So, now that we’ve increased the size of the department and since there’s a big initiative to hire more engineers*, we got our own Chicago Eng t-shirts. Woot! Everyone not in Eng got a green version of the shirt that just says “Chicago,” not “Chicago Engineering”.
I’m happy to finally have a home after a few weeks on the road in the Bay Area and New York. It’s nice to have a desk and a chair and know where I’m going to be every day.
*If you’re interested in getting a job here, let me know. We have a referral program (wink, wink).

That’s a really nice photo of that shirt. It’s just a t-shirt, but for some reason it looks nice. Must be the lighting.

Hi Rachel,
I’m a long time reader (since 2005) and a second time replier. Have enjoyed your photos of your travels and have been given ideas of where to eat/drink in Chicago and New York, so thanks for that. If you’re serious about referrals I would like to send you my resume. I’m an assistant manager of desktop support services at a large outsourcing IT company, I have almost 8 years of experience in IT and am pretty personable. I can send you my resume if you want to take a look, just let me know where you want it sent.
Thanks a bunch…

Need any writers?

These are the jobs available in Chicago. I don’t think there are any writing positions. The big push is for engineers. C.Valentine, send me your resume at my email address - rachelle@rachelleb.com.

Sarah beat me to it!
Also, saw the stained-glass version of that logo (that must be in the lobby of your new office, I’m guessing) in the Trib today!

The stained glass design is derived from Frank Llyod Wright’s Coonley house in Riverside, Illinois. Here are some of the stained glass designs currently reproduced, http://www.oakbrookesser.com/pages/fllw_artglass/coonley.html.
