If you didn’t guess it from my last post on In-N-Out, the design team is out in California this week, spending our days in Mountain View and our nights in San Francisco. The hotel rooms were actually cheaper in the city than out in Mountain View. Awesome. We’re staying at the Hotel Triton this week, which is way less than the Radisson that I spent a lot of the New York trip at and is about 100% cooler and more clean. Hotel Triton is pretty funky, although I still think I liked the Maritime Hotel in New York better. Too bad I could only stay for a couple nights at the Maritime. I’m not complaining one bit. This hotel is great and way better than that Radisson on Lex.

  1. I was at that hotel in March for a week for a conference!! I’m so glad someone else found it as cool as I did…as for the “wine tasting”, it was more of a “here’s a glass of chardonay” kind of thing, rather than a “tasting” per say. Unless Joe’s experience was vastly different than mine. : ) Also, the slightly 80’s, slightly Cher tarrot card reader in the lobby is a trip…

Not sure if you’ve tried it yet, but the restaurant at the hotel isn’t worth the cost of the food – you can get better all over the place. Try “Chow” in the Castro – awesome, fun, and really good. For the best Italian ever, try Cafe Macaroni in North Beach – it’s only about a 10 minute cab ride from the hotel…you could even walk it fairly easily in comfy shoes.

Anyway, I’ve babbled on, but Triton was awesome – if only for the plentiful Aveda in the bathroom, right?

  2. Yes, the Triton’s. Sorry for the ambiguity. I stayed there about ten years ago and they had a really nice wine tasting every evening.

  3. hm. not sure. we’ve been in Mountain View working til about 6 or 7 or so each night, so by the time we get into town and get dinner (if we don’t eat at the office), it’s probably past the time they might have a tasting.
