Minnies, Lincoln Park, Chicago

Minnie Cheeseburger - certified ground angus beef, american cheese, on a brioche bun
Cuban - ham, slow roast pork, swiss cheese, and pickles grilled on a baguette
Venezia - fresh mozzarella tomatoes, and basil on a light toasted baguette
Minnies is a restaurant on Halstead where they serve about 20 different types of mini sandwiches. For $13 you can get 3 mini sandwiches, frites, and a draft beer or carafe of wine. One night after work last week, that’s what my coworkers and I went and did. I really liked it at Minnies. Aside from the kitschy 50s soda fountain interior and everything being uber cute, the food was actually really good. I liked my cuban sandwich the best. The frites were nice and crispy and they were served with a secret frite sauce made with Provence herbs. To top it off, they have a 24-hour window Thursday - Saturday, so if you’re out late in the neighborhood you can stop by for some after-bar eats.
After dinner and a few beers (some people even got mini beers!), we went next door to Marquee Lounge for a drink. After that we went to Carol’s, where I’d never been either.. more on that in a bit!
Last week was really my week for trying out new places. The day before Minnies, my coworker Jessica and I met up with Allison at Fulton Lounge because they were having a free mojito promotion. I’d never been to Fulton Lounge, and even though I was kind of mad that they limited the mojitos to one per person, I’d like to go back. It’s not too far from work and I liked the vibe for after work. I could see how it could get weird on the weekend though, maybe. Like people trying to dress up and be too trendy. Who knows, though. Will have to see.
