Our dinner at Keoki’s had been really fantastic, but a little expensive, so Susan, John, Dallas and I decided to have a more casual dinner. I’d driven past Brennecke’s Beach Broiler in Poipu a thousand times and Dallas had lunched there in the past. It’s a pretty casual bar and restaurant right across from Poipu Beach Park and is so popular that the area of beach right across from it is popularly referred to as “Brennecke’s Beach.” We thought we’d get some casual, upscale bar food. Some seafood, maybe a burger, at a reasonable price. It turned out that the tab was as much as our tab at Keoki’s but for not as great of food as we got at Keoki’s. I felt like it was trying to be fancier than it should. The decor and ambiance was clearly casual, but the food was trying to be too upscale and it was definitely overpriced. I think Dallas must have lunched at Brennecke’s Beach Deli which must be more casual and less expensive. I think that would be the best bet there…. go for lunch, skip the dinner.

One shining point was a drink that Susan and I fell in love with called the Brown Nipple. It tasted like a pina colada, but maybe had a touch of coffee liqueur. Then on the top of the drink, there were two chocolate chips, so it looked like brown nipples sticking out of the top of the drink. We asked if we could get a pitcher of Brown Nipples because Susan and I were sucking them down, but “no can do.” Dang!
