hey
i live about a block from here . i believe this is
called a "victory square" or something like that.
probably built during ww2 or maybe just after.
it commemorates a neighbor who fell in that
conflict. i've done some internet investigating
and have come up empty handed ( except for
your site)i think i'll pursue this at the aldermanic
level and see what i can find. at the least it
deserves some upkeep which i would be willing
to lend a hand with.

There's a pocket of public housing, Lathrop Homes, between Clybourn and the river. Overall, they are smaller, older buildings, not large, super rough ones like the former Robert Taylor or Cabrini Green. Most of the public housing is now surrounded by new condos, Costco, new strip malls, etc. CHA has plans to replace the buildings with a mixed-income development in the near future, which was announced earlier this summer. There is a preservation push to save the builings, http://www.landmarks.org/chicago_watch_2006_6.htm. Also, be sure to check out the small park overlooking the river on the south side of Diversey, which is just west of Lathrop Homes and was redone this summer.

Hi Rachelle!

My name is Lucia, I'm from Buenos Aires, Argentina and I found your page looking for a "Pollo al Mole" picture at Google, but then I discovered all your New York pictures and I spend a big part of my work day looking at them! (don't tell my boss!)
I have been in NY twice and I'm totally in love with the city. I wish some day I could live there.
Do you live there?? Or used to live??

By from Buenos Aires!
