I walk over this piece of sidewalk every day on Roscoe Street. Obviously a rat met his demise here when the cement was wet. Gross!

I walk by that almost everyday as well, but I always assumed it was a very well executed joke. Although anything is possible, it just seems too perfect to be real.

Although we’re not able to see the entire surrounding sidewalk from your picture - I would be surprised that there are not more paw/claw marks. And I really doubt a tough city rat would be stopped by cement. Someone likely killed it and/or planted it there…

OK, Rachelle, come clean. You are the one that planted this rat there, aren’t you??

Can’t think of a better emblem for Roscoe St. I keep wondering though… What was that rat doing just before he… well you know?

I’m sorry, I can’t look at this. I just can’t. Especially following the food photos. Scroll back and forth once… First it’s like “Yum…I’m hungry”…. [scroll..scroll] OHMYGAWKGGHTTSHFGRRPHMPH

I just found your blog doing an image search of Roscoe Village. I also see this daily and it’s one of my favorite markers in the neighborhood.

I’m not so sure he met his demise there. Notice how the paw prints are going the other direction. I would have expected a dragging print of it’s tail though. The double paw prints make me wonder though. I can’t make sense of it. I’d love to hear what a forensics expert would say.*lol*
