Roscoe Village, Chicago

On the corner of Roscoe/Paulina/Lincoln there’s an old abandoned tire shop. The parking lot was always totally empty and everyone would cut through it to go to the Paulina Brown Line station. You can’t help but think about the value of the land and what could be there serving all of that traffic walking past. Last Wednesday I saw some demolition equipment arrive and I also noticed that there was a hose on the nearest fire hydrant. Sure enough, on Thursday, even though it was pouring, demolition of the building began. I took photos on the way to work and on the way home. I wonder what it’s going to be. Worst case: Condos. Best case: A store or restaurant that caters to the enormous amount of foot traffic that goes by on a daily basis.

I’m guessing CTA has something to do with it. Brownline expansion, have you watched the news? Start noticing all the consruction going on around each brownline stop.

I went to that tire shop once when I used to live in Roscoe Village. They shredded my spare tire and tried to tell me that it was like that when I brought the car in.

PS - And the manager had newly implanted rows of hair.

That tire shop has not been closed for too long, I just bought tires there maybe 4 months ago….I just hope it is not more condos going up, anything but more freakin’ condos.

Yes, this demolition is for the CTA brown line renovation. The new platforms will be large and be much more accessible. Modern elevators and much wider platforms are being installed.

The original plan for the platform lengthening project was to relocate the station entrance to the NW corner of Lincoln/Roscoe/Paulina, which gives them more space for turnstiles, elevators, bike storage, etc. Not too sure how much of this has changed through cost-cutting measures taken to get the project under budget. Here’s some pertinent info, http://ctabrownline.com/paulina.html. If you dig through the community meeting presentations online, you’ll find more specific details on the station reconstruction.

I had tires installed there too. The took me to the cleaners. I’m glad to see ‘Just Tires’ has ‘Just Disappeared’.

10 years ago, I used to live right across the street in the building that faces the El tracks. Great building, althought I felt like I was living on a slice of pizza, due to the 6 way intersection.
It was also creat fun to ‘moon’ the El passengers and light off fireworks on the roof.
