One Night in Greektown

August 26th, 2006 · 12 Comments

So annoyed right now! I just lost some really cute photos from last night. I thought I was deleting a couple repeat photos and I accidentally deleted all of them. … and then I was getting a disk space error so I emptied the trash. Woot whoa. Allison and I went to Greektown, which I’d never been to. Before I worked in the West Loop it just seemed out of the way and there was no reason to even go through it unless you were specifically going there.. and I just never got there. We went to Pegasus and sat on their “veranda,” which is their open rooftop. It was nice out, we drank some strong greek beer and shared some grilled shrimp skewers, a gyro, and a feta & olive plate. Afterwards we stopped by a cute greek bakery, but didn’t get anything, then somehow ended up at an Irish bar in Greektown? At the bar is where the cute photos were taken. There was this kid in there selling balloon animals and shapes. It was really weird. His mom was there too. Allison and I weren’t really interested in whatever their deal was but we had made friends with some 60-year-old man who was older than both of our fathers and he insisted on buying us balloons. So then the photos were of us posing drunk with like heart-shaped balloons and doing shots with weird balloon turtle bracelets. Oh well. It’s not often I lose photos, so I guess I’m pretty lucky.

You should try Rodity’s next time. Not the nicest restaurant on the block, but the best food. But nothing beats the ones with outdoor seating when the weather is nice.

Rodity’s is the one we go to by default because Debbie’s family had been going for years. It’s just nice and unassuming, and the food it always great. But now that we live over here and have tried them all, I have to say they’re all pretty much the same, so you can’t go wrong.

I have a great “file recovery” program I can email you, if you want to try it! As long as you didn’t overwrite the photos, you still may be able to recover them! All erasing the photos does, is intially delete the index of the photos.

hrm. that sounds promising, rich. does it work on a mac?

Hmmm … I don’t think so … Windows only … if you can plug your memory card (via USB) to a PC you might be able to recover the files. NOTE: Do not take anymore photos with that card if you can as that may overwrite the pictures that were deleted. Let me know if you can use the program!

You should have a pretty chance for getting your photos back if you just deleted them. As Rich says, it’s just the index that has been deleted. There are Mac-based file recovery programs out there. However, keep in mind that the memory card is likely formatted in a DOS-based format and some of these programs will only handle the Mac HFS+ file format, which won’t read it correctly. Check out this site, http://www.imaging-resource.com/SOFT/PHR/PHR.HTM. Their program looks like it will do what you need it to do and there is a trial version for the Mac you can try out.

    Good luck.

i already took like 150 more photos on that card. does it matter?

I really depends, but the more photos you take, using that card, the more chance that you will have of overwriting the old ones.

I think you mean “Rutt Rrow”!

I have an old hp photosmart and it is notorious for screwing up perfectly good SD cards. I tried many OS X recovery programs when I lost picture data, only to point to the camera as the culprit. I may just add a Canon to my Xmas list.

If you have access to a PC you can use the recovery software I have or I’m near Roscoe Village, you can drop by and we can see if any of the photos are recoverable. The software has been invaluable, also works with hard drives as well. BTW - I have a Casio Exilim camera, excellent camera with great battery life even though I think the optics are better with the Canon’s.
