When I worked on Michigan Ave., we used to go to Grand Lux sometimes for special lunches – someone’s first day, someone’s last day, someone in town, etc. There or else Bandera. I’d never been to Grand Luxe on a weekend and when we went after the Wendella tour there was quite a wait for a table. It was worth it in the end. You have to get the baked to order chocolate chip cookies if you go. They come out hot and melty and soooo good.
Danz Cookies in Evanston used to do baked-to-order cookies, available for late-night delivery — with milk, even! But alas, they are gone now. *sigh*

Used to have Danz Cookie Co in Ithaca NY yrs ago, Are they still operating across States anywhere.
It was fun for us and for the kids at college.
I stumbled across your blog while looking for pictures of octopi of varying shapes and sizes. I wouldn’t normally comment, but the way you frame a photography shot is very nice.
FYI – It looks like Danz is gone but a copycat (who think they came up with the idea in 2003 at UPenn) is operating… insomniacookies.com.
